They didn't say how they got on the trail of the suspects. Good police work or an annon. tip? However it came about at least they got caught.

Tips are good police work.

Maybe the suspect boasted, or maybe someone heard on the grapevine that someone had a "silenced" semi-auto for sale. It sounds like a pretty solid case.

The probable cause affidavit should be public by now, but perhaps no one bothered to publish it. They usually don't.

Whoa! The "suspects" are prison guards (a.k.a. corrections officers).

According to this story, a witness at the rifle range identified the primary suspect, and the police put surveillance on him.

I can't find the affidavits online. As I said, usually no one bothers. Millions of these things are executed every year.

The district attorney said last week that the primary suspect in this case was motivated to obtain weapons in an effort to overthrow the U.S. government.

From the mug shot, it looks like a skin head, a white extremist?

That's not what I would consider a skinhead. They usually have visible tattoos, body piercings, etc.

He was a Marine.

Many LEOs keep their hair short so that it can't be grabbed, and many are subject to dress codes for that reason.

The affidavits that were used to obtain arrest and search warrants are still sealed.
