You already know this Craigslist person is a BG and it is not unheard of that supposed sellers will advertise on Craigslist and then rob(or worse) the buyer when they meet. It is not worth it, even if you have have lots of backup friends. The BG may have friends too......then what?
Let the LEO's know or certainly let Craigslist know what you suspect. If nothing happens then your insurrance should payup. You may want to see if you can come up with better security on you home or car that was broken into.

After his previous brush with the law, you think he would know how important it is not to leave witnesses.

The problems with insurance are (1) the deductible, typically 1% of the insured risk. That could be $1,500 in this case. (2) Theft insurance generally pays the depreciated value of stolen property, which can be a small fraction of replacement cost.

Certainly most people could improve their home security. An alarm system encourages burglars to move on to easier pickings.

I think he got the "No Witnesses" part the first time around. What he failed to learn was to leave 2-sizes-too-small gloves about...

He didn't learn the lesson because he left witnesses in Vegas.
