Just finished watching it. I agree, it was a fantastic movie.

I really enjoyed it, too. Jeff Bridges playes that role so well.

Oh, I'll watch it eventually. It's just that I don't spend money for the theatre performance. When it finally hits cable and is shown wthout cost, I will record it and watch it, skipping the commercials. I guess I should have said that I won't spend an additional penny.

Just saw it at Peaand Cinema 6, on th OP recommendation.
It was great. At 2.50 a ticket you can't beat the price.

The wife and I saw True Grit tonight. It was a good movie. I'm not a Jeff Bridges fan, but he was good in this movie.

Great review, TAM. Completely agree. Very good movie, just a good-ok fashioned straight up western - enjoyable to watch.

The 14-year-old girl (both the character and the young actress) stole the show. Bridges was really good too. Damon was better than I thought he'd be, but still think he was a casting mistake - a real-life Texan, Matthew McConaughy or Billy Bob Thornton, been better.

Brolin was convincing in his limited screen time, with a perfect vocal inflection. And Barry Pepper is phenomenal - if I didn't know going in that he is in this film I likely would not have recognized him.

I'm not a connosieur of classic westerns, but do enjoy "modern" westerns and this one ranks highly:

1. Unforgiven
2. Open Range
3. True Grit (new)
4. 3:10 to Yuma (new)
5. Silverado

I first took note of Barry Pepper as the praying sniper in Saving Private Ryan, and later as the prison guard in The Green Mile, and I'm somewhat of a fan of his. He seems to be one of those actors who always secures something less than a leading role, but he plays them with utter conviction and dedication, even if it seems to mean that he'll always be condemned to secondary roles. It's a shame really, because he really is a fine actor. I would like to see a major film release in which he plays the lead role. A couple of months ago, we rented a DVD from Netflix of the HBO film titled "61*" directed by Billy Crystal about the race between Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle to break Babe Ruth's home run record in 1961. Pepper plays the lead role of Roger Maris, and he was simply great. He deserves more recognition than he gets.

I am looking forward to see this movie, but I just don't have the courage to go to any movie on opening week. I have to wait until the crowds die down. I rented the original True Grit for my wife last night, as she had never seen it. I forgot how different movies of that era were. It is nice to watch a film without any "uncomfortable" moments. It was corny I guess, but I have to admit to enjoying it.

Barry Pepper also had a major role in "We Were Soldiers" in which he gave another superb performance. I am a huge fan of his.

I LOVED Barry Pepper's role in Saving Private Ryan. He was also superb in We Were Soldiers.

He's one of those actors with the chops to do leading roles, but not the right Hollywood look.

I actually like him in all the smaller roles he plays. Seeing him in a movie is like a nice surprise.

Thanks for the review. It is on my list. IMO, Jeff Bridges is one of the most under-rated actors. I still haven't seen Crazy Heart. My favorite is Starman. I also liked him in K-PAX, Jagged Edge, The Fisher King, Tucker, The Mirror has Two Faces, Fearless and White Squall.

speaking of Jeff Bridges, anyone see the new Tron? I dug it (quite a bit), but I really felt he was reprising The Dude through most of the movie, and that somehow irked me.

anyway, yeah, Barry Pepper is the bomb diggity. He played Corporal Dunn in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and following his WWII thang was in Flags of our Fathers, but was also Dale in 3, the Dale Earnhardt Story. dude gets around. one hopes he isn't a weirdo in real life...

As I told another friend: The new Tron felt like it was written by George Lucas in his post "Han shot first" years.

I was very disappointed with all aspects of the new Tron movie, and was thrilled to see Jeff Bridges redeem himself in True Grit.

That is a very good movie. Forgot about BP in that one.
