It really doesn't matter what any persons opinion is since open carry is a right.

I don't think the TX legislature wants to legislate in favor of restoring our gun rights. I think they want a court ruling so they don't have to support or oppose this right and can distance themselves for elections. I think if we had a good case in the courts the State would work with us to craft the decision so they would have a judgment that "forced" them to change the TX constitution and laws to comply. Then those that represent more pro-rights areas can voice their support and those that live in anti-rights areas can say how they oppose it but must do what is necessary to make our laws comply. Should that be the direction we move?

Then it unexpectedly warms up to the point where the jacket is uncomfortable. My choices are to sweat it out under the jacket or go some place and remove the pistol. If open carry were legal, I could just take off the jacket when it became uncomfortable without worrying about breaking the law or going home to change clothes and/or holsters and/or guns.
I wouldnt open carry very often either, but having the option sure would make it easier to lug this p226 with the 20 round extended mags around

I support Open Carry, but only because it is our right to do so. The chances of me ever open Carrying, if legal, are slim. But we should have the option to do so.

Wow, talk about bring up an OLD thread!

Actually, I found the original essay on a different forum, then did a search of that url on this site, and found this thread. Just bringing it up again because I thought it was a good read, and it's been a while since the original article was seen here, and we have a bunch of folks who have joined this forum since this thread was active. Plus, it's legal in Texas whereas it was not when this was first discussed.

Anyway, here's the original article:
