I agree that the hand guard is way too short for that 16" barrel. It looks like you already have a low profile gas block, so it wouldn't be that big of a deal to mount a carbine or rifle length free floating hand guard. That would bump up your accuracy some, allow you to move that front sight further forward for a better sight picture, and give you the room you Need to mount optics and any other accessories need.
And do move that rear sight back and face it in the right direction. You'll see an immediate improvement in your sight picture.
Other than those little details, you've got yourself a good basic carbine. Welcome to the club. ARs are Legos for adults.

I thought about saying it, but let it pass. Now that you have, I have to add a
And to stay on topic, nice carbine, OP. Though if a friend built it, I'd definitely take it to the range and run it some before I trusted it. Enjoy it, and your next black gun should be an AK. Everybody needs at least 1.

Finally got to actually sit down in look at it after work today, moved the rear site and turned it around I think the guy who set it up for me just put them so he wouldn't lose them.
I guess I need to look into finding a range to shoot it at ammo should be here tomorrow

go coogs, anyone? anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
they didn't have a "Shasta" or a three-finger salute, so figured the dancing banana would work.
But I'm an Aggie by marriage, so that counts for something, right?

I Live in Galveston and frequnet the T.C. Range. If you are in the area you can check mine out as it's got junk hanging all over it: EoTech, Troy sights, Surefire light and LaRue Tactical vertical grip also has carbine length rails.
