If I move to Texas, and get a Texas drivers license before I get around to getting a Texas concealed permit, will I still be able to carry in Texas with either my Iowa or Utah license? Or, will I need to get the Texas concealed permit before I switch my residence to Texas?
Change the address on your Utah license once you have a Texas address. It's good in Texas. I suggest taking the Texas CHL class to learn the law (and getting a Texas CHL is good too) but the Utah license will cover you in the meanwhile.

Thanks PawPaw for correcting my "freeway" error. Been 12 years since I've been in Dallas...lol. Have absolutely no interest or need to go there again... :)

Welcome to Texas and I might suggest the Plano/Carrollton area to look at, my daughter lives in Carrollton and the traffic isn't really bad (after you get used to it).

Be sure to make sure you change your address as soon as you find out what your new address will be.

If you're planning on renting, you might want to look into rental houses. You can get rent a decent house for the same price as an apartment in many cases. http://www.zillow.com is a great resource for buying and renting apartments, townhouse, and houses.

Also, if you want to get away from the city a bit, Sachse, Wylie, and Lavon are really nice areas. Though Lavon is a little bit further out east than the others.

I'll be in Dallas this coming Monday through Friday to check out our Datacenter there and look for a new apartment. Not looking forward to the apartment search to be honest.
Another option is to extend this trip and get your CHL class while you're here. If you apply online now, you should be able to schedule a fingerprint appointment during that week as well.

Looks like I'll be good. I contacted Utah to see if they would still honor my permit if I changed residencies to Tx. Below is their response...

Your permit will remain valid until it is time to renew. At that time we would need to see if we have reciprocity with your place of residency. If we do then you would be required to get that states permit and send in a copy of it along with your renewal application.
Have a great day
