I only hug on my left side, in a side-to-side type hug. I do this with everyone regardless of how close they are to me so I don't slip up and do it to someone who does not know me that well and so does not know that I carry.

Lots of folks have expressed how they do it, and it matches mine, so let me try to elaborate.
When faced with a hug, I plant my right elbow against my pistol, with my right forearm extending forward.
At the same time, I throw my left arm up and out, and move slightly to the right of the "plane of interception".
This forces the hugger into a high/low hug, on my weak side. The hugger's left arm (on my gun side) goes neck high. No worries.
Isn't it a shame that we have to evaluate our social interaction to such a degree?

when faced with a hug, I run.

Anyone I'm familiar enough with to hug, ie. my parents, know I'm packing luggage.
I have a buddy of mine that's a hugger. as men, it is law that we do the handshake first, then keeping the clasped hands between us, we each give two good pounds on the back with a loosely closed fist.
anything more would be ackward....

I'm not a hugger, never have been.
If forced to hug I'll do a sideways thing.
