Loading gates on Marlins and Winchesters are convenient and probably necessary if you were at the OK Coral but I find most of them pinch my fingers when loading.

Tubular loading such as my Henry are quick to load but not without taking the rifle off aim (general direction) of the target. But in a pinch you can load one at a time in the ejection port as needed for immediate dispatch of whatever.

Tubular loading rifles are fine for hunting and range use.

I watched as my buddy's Marlin .22 spring tube went sailing into a river once.

I'd probably get the hang of it eventually, but I always seem to overload the tube and then I have to tip it over and try to guess how many I should let out before trying it again.

Whenever I get bitten by the lever bug I'll probably get a henry anyways. No safety, and the winchesters I've seen dont hold a candle to the smooth action of the henry.

Well, you do have to securely close (latch into slot) the spring tube when you push it back into the rifle.

Big Boys do in fact have a transfer bar safety (internal) that works with the 2 piece firing pin, the trigger action and the bar which is actually recessed into the face of the hammer. There is no half cock. It is either hammer down (and safe with transfer bar down) or cocked and will not fire unless the trigger is pulled. There is no external safety of any kind.

And you are correct in that the action is the smoothest I have ever seen
and I have owned both Marlins (and have one now) and Winchesters.

NICE GUN! I just bought my Dad a Henry Golden Boy .22LR for his 50th Birthday. Its the first rifle he's ever owned so I wanted to get him something easy to handle but that will last the rest of his life. I never had a chance to handle it but everything he's said about it is super positive.

I figure every Texan should own atleast one lever-gun.

I've handled those NIB Henry's, no doubt it's a smooth as any out of the box. Marlin's you gotta work it in. My Marlin has had plenty of that.
