I knew a guy who bought a bunch of those giant sour dill pickles when he quit dipping. He'd cut em into fairly big chunks and carry em in a ziploc Baggie. Whenever the urge hit, he'd pop a pickle chunk and tuck it into his 'spot' to work on.
Worked for him for years; and is a different option than the candy.
Good luck.

Thanks everyone. Yep... we will see how it goes. After the first week it's only supposed to get easier.

I have quit dipping dozens of times. This time has been 6 weeks.
The nicotine addiction will always be part of you but it can be defeated and I plan on doing it rigt this time because I will be able to see my grandchildren grow older.

Good luck to you. Breaking addictions is a tough thing to do.

This is true. My family has a long history of alcoholism and I can tell you first hand, you don't realize how enslaved you are by the chemicals until you try to give them up. Chemical addiction is the Devil at his finest. A little temporary comfort at a terrible price to your health and often your relationships.
I believe the people who successfully kick their addictions always have a strong network of family and friends to help see them through. You can't do it by yourself, but your wife, family, and church, combined with your will power will give you the strength you need. Seek out their fellowship and let them help you. You also need to avoid the people and places that will lead you to temptation. You will likely always have bouts where you crave your old addiction, but you just return to your source of strength and you can overcome. I wish you well, you are making the right choice to give it up!

I have dipped Copenhagen snuff for too many years...quit about 2.5 years ago for about 6 months. Went hunting, started back...

6 months after that, quit for about a year. You guessed it.

I'll follow your progress, Snatchel, and maybe you can bring me back from "the dark side". That is one of the hardest dog-gone things I have ever tried to do. Sometimes I think it is harder to break the "habit" than the addiction...if that makes sense.
Wow, LJM...just like that?
Yes, it does seem harder to break the habit than the addiction...I'm an aircraft mechanic and I tell you that I smoke much more hanging around the other mechanics than I ever do at the house. I know I'm going to have to quit sooner than later, its just getting too darned expensive if nothing else, but like you said, habits are hard to break!

I smoked a pipe for 30 some odd years and just quit when a young sawbones in Colorado said I'd had a heart attack back in '08.
I dated several girls/women, back in the day, who smoked but never dated a girl/woman who dipped. How do you kiss someone who dips or chews and what do they do with their spit jar in the process? No tongues, eh?
Yuk, ewuu, yuk, ewuu!

I had a friend try to quit dipping several times and he finally did it by chewing sunflower seeds instead. It's been 2 years since he last dipped. But he chews sunflowers pretty much all day long.

At first blush, I thought the post had to do with 'dipping' the front sight, not nicotine delivery.
Why put something in your mouth that you gotta spit out?...Cost?
I'm still addicted to smoking. Its just as nasty.

The question is still on the table. You know, the question about kissin' dippers and
vice versa. Do people really kiss dippers...on the mouth?

Thanks to Snatchel for getting my "wheels turning" back in December. Well, 3 months later, I am now an official quitter! On one hand, it's only been 4 days. But on the other hand, I'ts been 4 days! I must admit that I am chewing the nicotene gum to help me a little in the beginning, but at least it is the 2mg and not the 4. I have used the gum in the past and I know I have failed in the past because I didn't think of setting a target date for quitting the gum

. I've always thought of myself as a strong person, but this dipping thing has always been the one thing I have not been able to kick.
I have a wonderful wife, a college baseball player, and a little 6 year old daughter. That is all of the reason I need. By the grace of God, I will and have kicked it this time!
Thanks for the shove, Snatchel!
