The last gun show I went to was about 6-7 years ago in Dallas. I did not know they would be 30.06 posted and was carrying. There were two DPD officers at the entrance checking weapons and a metal detector to walk through. They would zip tie the gun and hand it back to you after clearing the metal detector. All other metal items would have to be removed and put into a tray and handed back after clearing the metal detector just like at an airport. I went in, didn't find anything I wanted to buy that day, and haven't been back to another show since then.

Seems to me the common thread running through all gun shows, no matter which city or promoter, is the insurance companies. THEY are the ones who insist on the 30.06 signs. What I want to know is, IF someone gets hurt or killed at a gun show, through no fault of a CHL holder/attendee, is the insurance company going to pay up? Or are the going to fight it tooth and nail and cheat somebody? And you can probably guess by my wording which one I think it would be!

What I don't understand is that insurance companies usually have some pretty smart lawyers working for them. Why is it that they are unable to understand the laws regarding where 30.06 signs cannot be enforced? Or is it that they are just pushing their luck and daring someone to challenge them?

You really want to be defenseless possibly carrying a lot of cash and a shiny unloaded pistol? I empty the chamber in the car and stick the mag in my front pocket. Better than nothing at all. When leaving I go to the bathroom and slip the mag back in for the trip to the car. Trip is usually far and Houston aint the best place to wander the streets, especially downtown.
You know, that's a good point! I never thought of it that way. I'll be sure to carry my mag in another pocket. I guess I mistook "no loaded firearms" as "no outside ammo." Heh, I love this forum.
