I've looked for brass catchers but I have only be able to find just one that is made for the Sig556 and it's 135.00!!
I found some other "universal" ones that you can put on the table next to you but I think I can make one out of a 2x4 and a butterfly net cheaper than I could buy one.

I thank you for your suggestion but I'm not sure it would work with my rifle due to the charging handle.

Also, to +1 the above, there are VERY few commercial brass-catchers for our Sig556.

Where'd you get the aftermarket charging latch? Do you prefer one over the other?

The above picture isn't my rifle. I just found it on the interwebs and put it up there to show the action.
I do have an aftermarket charging handle on mine though and its made my Griffin.
I like it but really don't use it that often, I normally just use the bolt release to get rounds into battery.

The biggest advantage is that you're able to work the action just as easy without interfering with any mounted optics.

I finally made it back to the range the other day and went to Target Master in Garland.
I liked this place. It seemed decently ventilated and there was plenty of room on the rifle range.
Also, a 50 yard, indoor rifle range thats open every day of the week is nice to have when your schedule or the weather doesn't permit going on certain days.
I wasn't able to shoot my M855 like I wanted to but oh well.
Here is the rest of what I shot.
To say the least I wasn't as pleased with this outing. I was pretty tired and probably didn't do as well as I could have.

I also ditched the scope mount and went with some lower rings similar to the Burris XTR rings.
The scope now sits just a hair off the rail.
Also, I'm not 100% sure it if was my lack of sleep or me lowering the position of the scope but my eyes got tired towards the end and I had a hard time focusing the cross hairs on the target.
I adjusted the manual focus on the scope and even changed the eye relief but it was still blurry a bit.
The BSA I used on my 522 afterwards though didn't give me any vision issues.

I was very disappointed with this round of shooting seeing as how well it did last time and this seems to be 180* in the opposite direction of how it previously performed.


AE XM193 55gr FMJ
Someone on another forum suggested I try some of the 55gr stuff in 5.56 and see how that worked vs the .223 stuff.
I have to say...I could tell a definite difference in the "bang" this round produced vs the other rounds.
The very first round was the one on the right side of the bullseye and I though "Well, I'll be!".
I got 30 rounds in the box and the first 20 were the first shot and then that group directly below it while aiming in the center.
I was surprised a bit and kind of ok with the results.
The last 10 were aimed at the top left and I have no idea what happened with that group.

I am kind of surprised that it grouped so badly with that ammo. I always had the idea in my head that a 1-in-7 twist barrel would run just about anything through it except the VERY lightest bullets such as 40 and 45 grain "varmint" bullets/loads. I have had some thought about getting a 1-in-7 rifle length upper for my AR, which currently has a 16-inch, 1-in-9 flat-top carbine upper on it. I haven't actually measured my groups and its been a little while since I've been able to fire FMJ rounds through it due to the policy of the range in my area ( ) but I am pretty certain that it wasn't that bad with either 55 grain 5.56x45mm or 62 grain 5.56x45mm. However, I do know that I cannot put 75 grain rounds through my carbine...that is when they get like in the picture above. I guess its really about what sort of ammunition you want to be able to use and what results you expect to get. Thanks for remembering and posting for me.

If I could do it over again I would go with a 1:8

I get a four inch group firing 20 rounds in ten seconds out of my LWRC. Granted I shot PRVI.
