Does anyone have a list somewhere. We will be staycationing this year
in Texas and it would be some helpful info.

Thanks

Tim :patriot: :txflag:
yup

2 places I usually check
Example here viewtopic.php?f=7&t=48807&p=598529&hili ... ps#p598529" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The corpslakes
http://corpslakes.usace.army.mil/visitors/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and TPWD

Use these two links for Texas
http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fi ... nal/lakes/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and
http://corpslakes.usace.army.mil/visito ... m?state=TX" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
or for other States:
http://corpslakes.usace.army.mil/visitors/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So use the 2 links and method I gave .../ USACE reports flow rates of rivers which are STATE River Authority (not USACE Rivers), and they report lake levels of "other" lakes not under their control .... but use the 2 links/methods I gave to see if it is "USACE owned Property/managed/controlled by" the USACE.

I will never visit a ACE property. If they ever allow CHL then maybe I'd go just to see what the big deal is. I don't fish or camp so I guess even it it was repealed, I won't notice anything. For those who do have an interest, I hope that it changes soon.

What about Post Offices?

To find a list of Corps lakes in your area, google 'Fort Worth District, Corps of Engineers' and they will have a list under About US. If you are in the far south east, google 'Galveston District, Corps of Engineers'. Or try this link, http://corpslakes.usace.army.mil/visito ... m?state=TX" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, I think you can find any lake in the US. It is divided by states on this site. Hope this helps.

I am dumb, I see where someone already posted this info.

Since I am an Okie, could someone send me a link to your laws on Concealed Carry? I know ours, but I would be interested to see the differences between the states.

Army Corps of Engineers restrictions are Federal, not State. However, Texas handgun laws (and more) are available in a handy pamphlet: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/internetfo ... chl-16.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

PDFs are pretty hard to navigate, and search, I think the wiki is a little easier although it still needs work. The government issued PDF can be found there also.

Hey Forum, long time lurker, first time poster.

The wife and I like to walk these trails in Little Elm on the shores of Lake Lewisville. Does anybody know for sure that these are OK for CHL carry?

I apologize in advance if I should be able to find this info on my own but my skills/patience at searching govt sites is whatever comes right above nil.

And thanks for all the other great info on this forum! :cheers2:

Sorry but all that area from the shores up to private land is ACOE. No carry.

Edit to add: Sorry, lost my manners - Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for the welcome and the info, although not what I was hoping to hear.

A real shame because recently we were walking those trails near dusk, enjoying the 'get away from it all' feeling when we came around a bend face to face with 3 'unsavory' fellas in the remotest part of the trails. To say they were out of place would be an understatement. I don't know what they were up to out there but I'm pretty sure they weren't bird watching. Not carrying, I looked them dead in the eye and summoned up a firm, "Howdy, guys." All we got in return was stone cold dagger eyes as we passed. But, they did not make a move towards us and we kept moving which was definitely the best case scenario. It really got me to thinking, though, how vulnerable we were out there and how easily and quickly things could have gone very differently.

That non-incident and 2 recent drug related shootings in our 'safe' neighborhood prompted me to get my CHL. Now, I just have to decide who do I fear most... the BG's or my own govt. :???:

There are a lot of good pepper sprays out there. Ya'll could try that for a little sense of security. Everyone in my clan got one of these in their stocking last XMas.

Kimber Pepper Blaster 2
I've seen tests/reviews etc ... considering the purchase now
I think if I was going to a gun free zone/campus etc. I'd carry a couple of those for 4 shots in case I met "a couple of people with evil intent"

The Pepper Blaster 2 you can get cheaper .. either in red or grey
example Free shipping if order 2 at $28.99 each, no tax http://www.safetygirl.com/kimber-pepper-blaster-ii.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.google.com/search?q=kimber+p ... 24&bih=636" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I saw a new hard to find Desantis pocket holster for them too at Midway
$9.99 (much better than the $18.00 "pouch" I would think)

My only hesitation with that spray, is that it takes a moment to "kick in" from the videos I've seen ... after it does though, it seems very effective... it's just that brief pause prior to the body's senses telling the brain ...'hey' ... 'ouch' ...which concerns me, though I knew a guy who was shot 6 times with a .38 who forgot to fall down or stop fighting and the shooter was in worse shape than he was when the ambulance was deciding who to take first.

Actually - the underlying land is also Federally owned - and USACE also enforces their regulations on the recreational water as well. Even when the Texas parks and Wildlife Department has leased lakes and lands from the Feds. The water that lies within a pool is usually 'owned' by a municipality (i.e. North Texas Municipal Water District) - then there is a certain amount set aside for Federal designated recreation use - and there is some freeboard maintained for Federal flood control purposes.

Oops, I think I carried illegally at the northern part of the lake. I did not have my CHL at the time. I carried because, well, my mom and 4 year old wanted to walk through the woods there. Stupid me figured if one can Duck hunt from those areas, a pistol should not be a big deal. Common sense would have gotten me in trouble.
