This raises more questions than answers - I very much doubt that charges of assaulting
a cop & resisting arrest
with violence would simply be dropped if there were any merit to the charges whatsoever. I could speculate that the battery and violence consisted of the guy bruising the cop's knuckles with his nose, but that's all it would be - speculation.
Based on what I've read here, all I'm sure of is that I don't have enough information to make an informed judgement.

I don't see in the article that Zimmerman had a CHL.
Maybe Zimmerman's father is the chief of police - pure speculation.

It just doesn't make any sense that the kid would have attacked the armed not so old white 28 year old guy for no reason. Unless this Zimmerman guy messes up and and changes his story somehow we'll probably never know what really happened. What does make sense to me is that the hot head wannabe stuck a gun in the face of someone he didn't recognize or may have mistaken for someone else and the kid thought he was being rolled by someone obviously not a cop and fought back.
I'm right there with you guys on the ridiculousness of many parents who insist that their boy was such a good kid and wouldn't hurt anyone rant on the news. However, the shooter doesn't have the greatest history and there hasn't been anything about the kid's history yet, has there?

This is like trying to write a review of a 2 hour movie after watching a 60 second trailer. You can speculate all you want, but until all of the evidence is collected and analyzed it is nothing more than a guessing game. As others have stated, the real story may never be told.

Yup. I suspect that is why the police are not releasing any recordings. They may be waiting to see if the shooter changes his story in anyway.

Put him under hot flood lights!

...any neighborhood watch-type program I've ever seen says "NO GUNS" while participating...and "Observe and report, don't confront"...sounds like a wannabe situation may have occurred...

I'll cheerfully observe and report, and I'll gladly — preferably, in fact — do it without confronting (as long as it's not a in-progress assault or something). If, though, they expect me to go out
looking out for trouble, in the event that I am successful I would like to have something other than my witty charm with me.

This is exactly why I will never participate in this type of program. I call the police when I see something suspicious, and when those stupid solicitors come knocking on my door!
Other then that, it's the responsibilty of every resident, espically homeowners/taxpayers, to look out for their neighborhood. I've always said, anywhere you can see from within your propery line is your's to look after. If every resident adopted this, maybe things would be a much better place without having to resort to citizens on patrol and all similar programs.
*edited* Within reason...if you live on the top of a mountian and you can see to infinity and beyond, then I dont' mean that.

It may be told, but you probably won't hear about it. Most of these cases disappear from the news after the initial story.

Maybe not - I was in Florida over the weekend and the 17 year old's mother was on the news asking for Rev. Al Sharpton to step in and make sure the shooter is arrested. He might keep the story going - he is still around isn't he?

I didn't think there was enough information to pick a side until I read this.
