Don't wait for the letter. Start your app as soon as it is available to you on the DPS site. And gprs ahead and get the class done.

What is the actual mailing address for the RENEWAL CHL-100?

I lost the reply letter from DPS advising that I had paid my fee. I just took the class this past Weekend and need to know where to mail the form to. Believe it or not, it is not on the form and I cannot find it anywhere on the DPS website (even with the search function).

Mail Without Payment:
Texas Department of Public Safety
Concealed Handgun - MSC 0245
PO Box 4087
Austin, TX 78773-0001

But, you can upload it to them online.
https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/rsd/contact/default.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Select "Concealed Handgun" from the program box and then scroll down to add your info and upload forms.

The Annoyed Man wrote:Hi Guys,

My first CHL expiration date will arrive on October 5 of this year—my 60th birthday. What is a reasonable timeline these days from start to finish, and how long before the actual expiration should I count on taking a renewal class and initiating that process? Also, I can't remember.....my current license was obtained before the electronic fingerprints were required, so DPS haS a card on file for me, but not a "digital card." Am I required to submit an electronic fingerprint set with my renewal, or is the card already on file sufficient?
Just curious as I was in this situation last year. I turned 60 on my license expiration date. It was also my third renewal, so no class required.

Applying online would have billed me the full price of $70. After sending an email explaining the situation, I received an application in the mail showing the correct $35.

That hiccup was supposed to have already been taken of when mine was due.

Did you have this issue?

If you get the renewal before the old one expires, do you swap them right away or wait until the old one expires?

That's an easy question to answer.......
Legally you are only allowed to have ONE ACTIVE Texas CHL in your possession.

So, the answer to your question is,.......
You cut one up and throw it away.

You decide which one you will do that with!

Please quote the law that says that.

Nobody?

I hear this a lot so I thought that would be even easier to answer.

Here ya go:

RULE §6.14, which states:
"A license holder may not possess more than one license to carry a concealed handgun issued by the department".

Only thing I've found is:
GC Sec. 411.184. MODIFICATION. (a) To modify a license to allow a license holder to carry a handgun of a different category than the license indicates, the license holder must:
......
(d) On receipt of a modified license, the license holder shall return the previously issued license to the department.

Is there something somewhere that just says one is not allowed to have duplicates of any license issued by the state?
