I am so stressed out about the 90% score on the shooting test. I suck at shooting from 15 yards. I am trying to blame it on the fact that I have a hard time with depth perception. My revolver I do pretty good with but my 9 mm is the problem. I am sure I will do fine I just hate any sort of test. I took my insurance license test earlier this year and I was so super stressed out about it and I passed the first time. I wish we could do the shooting test the first day so I don't stress out all week.

I am not going to stress, I am not going to stress.....yes I will.
mommagamber,

You have to score 225 to pass they give you a second chance. If you really work at it you can max the 3 and 7 yard stages you only have to score 50% on the 15 yard portion. Concentrate on what you are doing focus on the front sight squeeze the trigger and don't worry about where you hit concentrate on the next shot. Revolver is first, you aren't worried about your skill with a revolver that will build confidence. What 9mm gun are you using if it's a compact or subcompact try to get a full size to shoot on the test the longer sight radius will help.

Tell yourself this is just a thing and things can be overcome.

Good luck and shoot straight! :fire

My 9 mm is a glock. I might shoot better if I had a heavier 9 mm but I have been practicing with a heavier 40 but I still shoot better with the 9mm. I am shooting about $50 in ammo a day right now practicing so that doesn't help my stress level either. At least I don't have to pay range fees we have a shooting berm at our house!

Overtraining also leads to stress. Practice what you need to practice. Twenty well placed shots a day will build more confidence in your ability than 100 that are scattered. When you are training use a small target not that big old B27 - - - paper plates or typing paper make great training targets. Get to the point you can keep ten shots on a paper plate or typing paper at 15 yards and when you go to qualify it will be easy to keep your shots in the 5 ring. :thumbs2: :tiphat:

I don't think there was anyone in my group of about 45 that didn't pass the first time except for one that had a firearm come apart (cylinder release button 'fell out' of his S&W  .) Unless that happens to you, I don't think you will have any trouble with the shooting. ;-)

Some people just don't shoot a glock well (me for one). Do you have equal targeting difficulty with other semi-automatics? Please forgive me if this question causes an increase in stress for glock fiends :biggrinjester:
Also, if you have not taken some training with a really good instructor, consider that. We all have glitches in what we think we are doing right. A sharp observer can sometimes see right away what we need to do a little differently to really get on track.

Very correct maam. On the othere end of that stick then, there are folks that shoot them REALLY well.
Our own Crossfire is one.

Glock should be paying here for her ads.
My oppinion but it is what I think. :tiphat:

Typing paper? What's that? "rlol"

The range qualification was so routine to me, that after the revolver portion, I shot the semi-auto portion strong hand only.

Mommagamber, I'm sure you'll do fine. You'll be among like-minded people, and it's a FUN week! Enjoy!

I will be wearing a black Hurley hat with a pair of black and red Oakley sunglasses if anyone wants to say hi. I'd like to meet some of the members on here.
