How can DHS stop deporting illegals when they never started?

There's no jobs but our President is handing out work visas? Will they get unemployment benefits?

Hasn't the Obama administration deported more so far than Bush did in 8 years? Well over a million so far...

Someone (sorry, I can't remember who) claimed that deportations are actually up since last year, but that doesn't mean much without knowing if the # of illegals available to deport is going up or down. We could increase deportation by 2x , but if there are 10x as many illegals in the country then we're kinda slacking.

If I understand correctly, many of the deportations done recently were already in the works. The "catch and release" policy that has been followed for some time doesn't allow for deportations to happen quickly.
For me, all of the recent administrations have failed in this area, some more miserably than others. 12M people didn't just come through the border on one day. It is has been building up. But like a pimple, sooner or later it gets big enough and sore enough that it has to be dealt with.
Somehow, we've got to get beyond one party being right and one party being wrong. Both parties have been wrong on a lot of stuff, including illegal immigration. That is why we have the problems that we have. Changing the party doesn't address the problem because both parties want to "kick the can down the road."
Just my $.02 worth.

I suspect, like all the other 'statistics' that come out of this administration (such as jobs 'created or saved'), he's gilding the lilly by counting 'self deportations' --illegals who've left on their own because they can't find work. Count those, and I'd believe that he's 'deported' more than his predecessors.

Not according to Obama when he's speaking to Latinos.

Deportations are actually down 40%.

Anyone who believes Obama is tough on immigration enforcement is ignoring the monumental contradictions. The lawsuit against Arizona (soon to be ruled on by the Supreme Court) is just the most glaring example of the dichotomy between his rhetoric and his policies. The problem is the sycophantic press has repeated his lies so often that many people believe them. This most recent case of abrogating the laws of America should put to rest the idea that he's strong on immigration enforcement. When asked what she would do about the PARENTS of the youngsters he just waived our laws on, Napolitano stated We're not going to use this as a subterfuge to deport the parents (words to that effect). IOW, they just granted amnesty to both the children and their parents.
Who's left?

If it would be inhuman, as obama claims, to send an "all but citizen" to a country where he may not even know the language, well, wouldn't it also be inhuman to tear a family asunder by deporting only the parents? In for a penny, in for a pound!

Precisely, my friend. And you may rest assured that that argument will be used against anyone opposed to it. The proper way to attack this newest outrage is to point out that he doesn't have the Constitutional authority to do it, and that is just one more example of his disdain for our laws.

Speaking of "statistics", I know many people who are, or have been, unemployed. I don't usually hang out with illegals, but I don't know a single person who has been deported.

That's not fair!
DHS is enthusiastic about deporting Europeans who marry Americans but make a paperwork error and Asian PhD candidates on a student visa who make a paperwork error.
It's only the people who illegally sneaked into this country with no paperwork who DHS refuses to deport.
And terrorists taking classes how to fly a plane without caring about how to land the plane.
