If we assume that those numbers are correct (they probably aren't) if you use the highest murder rate ever in the nation—35.4/100,000 in D.C. (ironically) in 2005—we are a nation of some 310 million people. That's 3,100 times 100,000. 3100x35.4=109,740. That's what it takes to get to a figure of 100,000 homicides. But those numbers also include homicide by knife, baseball bat, poison, drunk driving, child battery, etc., etc., etc. Even Wikipedia isn't so intellectually bankrupt to suggest that these are all gun deaths....although the next paragraph seems to imply it.Prevalence of homicide and violent crime is greatest in urban areas of the United States.
