The other nice thing about the G30 is that you can carry the G21 13 round mags for reloads. That's what I do with Federal 230 grain HSTs.

Went to the range today to pick up my new Glock 21 Gen 4 (I traded a Sig P238) for it. While I was standing at the counter the owner comes up to me and says, hey Jim, you really need this brand new Glock 30sf to go along with your new 21. I told him $489 was a good price but I could wait for the Gen 4. He said how about $389? I told him if I were to buy the Glock 30 sf for $389, he would have to sell me a 1,000 round case of Federal 230 FMJ for $300. He said, okay. Is today my birthday? :cheers2:

Man, snatchel, I think I need to take a look at the Glock 30. That's quite the ringing endorsement.

Since we're on the topic of Glocks, when and why do you choose to carry the 17 over the 30 sometimes?

I am impressed with all the guys here carrying large guns. I cannot do it because of the way I dress. Who knows, maybe I just need to put on my big boy pants and step up. I just don't know.

I have a g30 and like it, just to big for me to carry. I can get by with my G33...just not the 30.

Well I'm not that big. I just dress comfortable, a pair of cargo pants (sometimes jeans) one size too big (which also gives me room to move and keeps the pants from sticking to me in the heat) since I carry IWB and a thin untucked button up shirt. It's just a matter of finding a good belt and holster that works for you.

A new G30SF for $389? Something doesn't smell right. That's a GREAT deal. Something I would be wary of.

All I know is when a gun feels good/shoots good/carries good, I'm a happy camper.

So, I don't know if you have noticed or not but several folks on here have a tiny pocket gun, a midsize (compact) gun, and a full sized gun that they rotate for carry.
Or at least that is the impression I have got. I found that after a couple of years of carrying, I needed to diversify my own stable, and started doing so.

Anyway. Here is what I carry, when, how:

Glock 17-- I carry this a TON since I have bought it. Carries well 24/7. I have not had any issues concealing it under a shirt, with cargo shorts IWB or OWB. I can say that it is more comfortable to wear OWB, and so that is what I do about 70% of the time. This is my dedicated gun-fight gun. I carry it when I feel most threatened, or when I know I will be going into seedy neighborhoods--that kind of thing. Although I do have guns with a higher caliber, this one gives me the fighting advantage of a whole lotta rounds to send downrange. And there ain't nothing sissy-like about a 9mm.

Glock 30--This guy also gets carried a lot. I would say that the G17 and G30 split carry time pretty evenly. However, there are times when something I am wearing just won't conceal a full sized handgun. I find myself carrying the G30 to church a lot because it leaves a tiny footprint, and I want a tiny footprint at church. Truth be told, I am going to print with both guns, no matter how hard I try to dress around them. I really don't care about printing. At all. Walking around town it doesn't matter--no one stares at you long enough to notice it anyway. At church, there are people sitting behind me doing exactly what I am doing to the people in front of me:::::STARING:::::. LoL. The G30 fills the "Compact" niche well. It is more comfortable to carry than the G17 IWB, but not by enough to actually make me care.

OK that makes sense. I was under the impression you carried the 30 primarily but that is evidently not the case. Thanks for the response. :tiphat:

Yep. 'Bout 50/50. I can tell you, SQL--as well as the OP, that the G30 is a fantastic piece of work. You really can't go wrong with it. Pick one up, grab the pinky extension from Pierce, and hit the range. You will see why many of us carry this guy a lot.

Come to Shootsmart and I'll let you shoot it. Then you can tell me for sure. :patriot:

My Dad carries a Glock 36 (slim version of the 30). It's fantastic for carry and shoots wonderfully. Just as narrow as my Kahr CW45 as well as the new Springfield XD-S.

The 30 is still a decent carry gun. The extra rounds of .45 (over the other options mentioned) are nice. If you are comfortable with the width for IWB then I say go for it but if you aren't go for the Glock 36 and you won't be disappointed. :coolgleamA:

I might have to do that sometime just to meet and check out Shootsmart. I have my own and it works great. If yours works like most all Glocks, you got a GREAT deal! I carry mine all the time I carry now. The G21SF has it's place on the nightstand.

That would be great. They are finishing up the new private lanes in a couple of weeks.
