It should be added just for the sake of thorough discussion that if you do carry a gun with a safety, practice disengaging the safety on the draw. Even if you carry it with the safety disengaged. You never know if the safety was engaged accidentally in the holster conversely to the situation described by the OP.

I'll be changing from my carry piece to a new Sig2022 around Christmastime.

I have some permanent nerve damage in my strong side thumb, so one of the biggest decision criteria I had when selecting this new ECP was the lack of a safety - I don't think I would be able to work one in a pinch because I can't feel whether it's up or down.

But, to echo the sentiments of the previous posters, I'm not sure I'd want a safety on a CC weapon anyhow - even if my thumb were OK. The probability of the safety being in the wrong position (i.e. 'on safe' when I want it to fire or 'on fire' when I want it on safe) at any given time decreases significantly if there isn't a safety to worry about in the first place!

Using my "night fighter" 1911 in IDPA to shake out flaws, I found the thumb safety to be hard to operate at times, such as in a quick draw and point operation, so I had my gunsmith lighten it up a little for me. Now the problem is, if I choose to carry that gun, the safety is so light that riding in one holster (with no body side shield) just rubbing against my body seems to take it off. I don't have too much of a problem with it being off, there are two other safeties to rely on, but it does cut the number by 1/3. OTOH, I rarely carry that gun, it sits in the nightstand most of the time.

Safety equals false sense of security. I wouldn't trust a manual safety any more than I would trust anyone's word that a weapon was not loaded.
