Why would a person post in a public forum that they lied on a document that you can go to jail for falsifying?

Personally I don't see how anyone can "forget" about an arrest. Now something like the bounced check thing maybe, but assault and resisting arrest? Seems like that would stick in ones head, especially when filling out the form.

LOL.... Yeah... I would remember resisting arrest and I do remember many of the fights I had as a misguided youth. I'm pretty sure fighting was OK for boys in those days. It didn't mean we had to shoot each other. The school would give us swats, make us shake hands and promise not to fight anymore. Now... Things are much more complicated.

Thing is folks... The OP got his CHL after providing the info from the courts. Apparently the state was ok with it. I can sure understand how a person might think something from many years ago would be insignificant to their behavior today... Especially if there were no felony convictions. Asking about legal issues from when we were minors is ignorant anyway. Many of us do stupid things as minors. We can't all be Greg or Marsha Brady! Some of us were more like Dennis the menace!

I am thinking we should say congrats and let it go rather than flogging it over and over again. Heck... I remember a thread where a guy was involved in meth. I think He got his CHL.

Personally, I think it is baloney we have to get the governments blessing to exercise a right guaranteed by the constitution! Anyone that can jump through these absurd hoops... More power to them.

Asking what we did as minors??? Really?? Pretty ridiculous in my humble opinion.

that's actually very easy, you omitted an arrest on your application, they found a record of the arrest. you omitted a material fact, a lie of omission is still a lie, you loose

I am new here, but perhaps others can learn from my experience.

For those who may have some memories that have escaped them, for a nominal fee you can acquire access to the DPS criminal database. Seems to me it would be good to check it out before you fill out your application.


a lie is deception, an omission can be done with intent to deceive or by mistake. with a 22 year window between I personally would ask for final disposition, and as long as you were not convicted I would issue it. If you were convicted I would make ya wait the requisite time and reapply. That being said, I'm just joe blow, and have no idea how the DPS will handle your case. Just my .02 (which is worse far less)

There is that pesky concept called "knowingly".

With the amount of money (overpriced) A CHL costs in Texas DPS should be able to get the documents themselves. They should have access to that kind of info.
