Lots of good stuff here & I can't argue with any of it because I've used most of these when carrying a full size Glock iwb. The only thing I would add is to be & act confident in your concealment. Make your adjustment when you get out of your car & then don't touch your rig again. At the most, a slight tug on the bottom of your shirt when you stand up if you're wearing an untucked shirt. But basically don't worry about it. Most people won't even see that you have a gun on you. And even I'd they do see or feel it, they're not likely to realize what it really is.

RJGold wrote:I know I have seen several discussions about carrying at Church and I wanted to post a couple of questions.
I have not carried at Church yet because I am not sure I could do it without being discovered. I play in our church band and our normal "uniform" is jeans and t-shirts. I am also frequently hugged at church and I worry about someone discovering my weapon during one of these hugs.
My carrying configuration is an XDM 9 Compact in a CompTac MTAC IWB.
For some of you who do carry at Church here are a couple of questions:
1. How do you dress around your weapon at Church?
2. How do you deal with hugs that may expose your weapon if you were carrying.
Thanks.

I am a priest at an Anglican church. I carry on Sundays like most other days. I say most because on days that I go to hospitals I leave it at home. I hate leaving a pistol in the car.
I carry my XD9sc in a tuckable holster at 4:00 on my right hip. I hug nearly everyone at the end of the service and have never been outed or no one has commented. I have a retired LEO who occasionally comes up and checks to see if I am carrying and one of our altar guild always has Glock 26 in her purse. We were talking guns one day and she just couldn't resist a quick check. I know of at least 2-3 others who are licensed, but don't know if they carry or not.
One of the great things about my job is that I have the best concealment rig ever. Everyday at work I wear black pants, a black shirt and a white collar. No one ever expects the good padre to be packin'. I could probably open carry behind my hip and nobody would notice. Urban Catholic Camouflage.

Very nice Father, very nice.
All this discussion has me wondering how many in our congregation are carrying. I may start checking...

Had to post this. It's from another thread but maybe you could use it to tell your church leaders that God is carrying and he is not happy about the 30.06 signage...

I play guitar in church and carry simply because there is too many unsecure entrances, in my opinion. I have not told anyone, however, some of the security team (LEO/former LEO) knows. A least, I assume they do, because the head of security talked with me once about what to do in an active shooter situation and offered to give me training!
I carry an XDm .45 compactin an IWB holster. I have yet to have strange looks when given a hug. One thing I do, however, if someone comes in on my strong side (I'm right handed, so I try and give left handed hugs), I will lean in their direction to keep my right hip from coming into contact. One time, a person saw my holster printing against my shirt as I bent over to adjust a foot pedal. He commented that he knew I had a gun, so I did tell him I had my CHL and it is perfectly legal to carry in our church (although I did not tell him I had a gun). We then talked about his wanting to get his CHL. Even if one were to brush up against my right side, and figure out what that was, I doubt it would be a big deal. Never say never, but its unlikely. When most people know you in church (that is, they know you, and love you as a member), I think there is a level of grace shown to one another.
That being said, however, one important rule - especially in church: concealed is concealed. Don't tell anyone you're carrying - it's none of their business. I know I repeat this on every church carry thread, but its something worth repeatiing. A concerned pastor's wife or well-meaning person can change rules with one email or phone call.

Maybe I'm not as picky as I ~should~ be.... but the conceal carry is not to be visible to the ordinary observer....doesn't say not feelable. If someone hugs me and feels it (first, at 5:00 carry..that would be a weird hug!) what are they going to say, they feel a bump? That would be a weird comment. If someone specifically asks if it is a gun, I never answer that to anyone except LEO's period. My pat response is to say "I don't do anything illegal" and walk away. Of course I am fortunate that as a preacher everyone knows I am a gun guy and teach CHL, so they kinda expect I will be carrying.

You should post it at texas3006.com so that other CHLs looking for a church can make an informed decision instead of being surprised by it when they get there.
