I absolutely agree, especially now that 50 seems to be the new 35. My quote is directly out my 50 year old yoga teacher's mouth, who is a woman and has a tramp stamp.

I don't believe I'd get any more. And I regret getting most of mine. That makes it sound like I've got a lot. I don't. Just a few, easily coverable tattoos. The only one that I can't say I regret is a very small one on my back, that matches one my wife has. We got them on our first anniversary. I can't say we'd do it again, but I don't regret it.

As a kid, I found tattoos a neutral thing as my Dad had them on both arms and chest. He had been all over the world in the military in WW11 as a young guy and got them at every new place.

He was a blue collar guy and I guess he thought they were cool. While I wasn't entranced by them, he was my Dad, so O.K...

As an adult, I found them as something only the lower class found attractive, or the military or rebellious or criminal or who knows...? Frankly, I kind of laughed at the lunkheads who got them...

Then one day, I wanted one.

It took a year to figure out precisely what I wanted.

I did a lot of research before I commissioned the artist to do the work. She and I had written, exchanged ideas (approval drawings) of what I wanted and talked on the phone.

Finally, I got a mural sized one on my chest. It took a long time for me to understand what that was. Took six hours of fine line work and it's original. My idea. No flash for me. I worked at what I wanted... It turned out to be something whimsical and meant a lot to me. No skeletons, snakes writhing up knives, or tough guy stuff.

From Houston, I had to fly to L.A. for the week-end to get this done.

The artist was nationally renowned among tattoo aficionados and had won many awards for her artistic and Norman Rockwell quality work.

That was plus twenty years ago and I'm glad I did it.

I love it!

One caveat: I wouldn't do it on public skin.

If I could get someone to exactly duplicate my CHL badge...

Oh and god dude if gawd or dog or whatever diety you believe in hadn't wanted us to have tattoos, he/she wouldn't have made skin so good at holding ink and wouldn't have made skin penetrable to sharp and pointy's nor given us the ability to create a method to push pigments under the dermal layer in a semi permanent manor, same as if dog/gawd/allah/Kali/ Jehovea/yoweah/the goddess or what ever you want to call it wanted us to fly it would have installed wings as original equipment

My tattoos are a story of my life. They are also stained glass windows I added to my temple to let the lords light shine in.

Easy on and hard to remove. But if you are going to do it make sure that the place is licensed and passed infectious disease checks. Not sure in Texas what the health laws on tattoo parlors is but there are serious health risks if equipment is not sterilized. And no matter what you think, you are not going to get them off 20 years from now. I don't hire people with a visible tattoo. You might think about that when seeking employment.

Yes, some employers won't hire a person with a visible tattoo i.e., on public skin.

However, some do.

My family doctor's Registered Nurse has quite a number of visible tattoos. So obviously, not all employers are biased regarding tattoos...but I would hazard a guess that the majority of employers are biased about visible tattoos, at least at the professional level - so again, if you're going to get one (or more) be discreet regarding placement...

A former Marine buddy has the Marine bulldog tattooed on his right arm. He's a professional and can never reveal it at work, thus he ALWAYS wears long sleeves.

If you're a blue collar worker, the chances of tattoo bias is quite a bit lower, but not 100% accepting in that arena either...

Tattoo's are for you and no one else. I waited until I was in my late 50's and now have 3. Think about it really hard and then do what is best for you.

I designed the first tattoo at her request. Her mother named her for "The Rose of Sharon." The stem is made from those words. My name "GUY" is hidden in the rose petals. Later she wanted a mirror of it on the other shoulder, so I had to redesign it so that my name would read correctly. The vine has the names of our children and grandchildren. The leaves at the end of a name branch is the birthstone color.

Well I hope you don't take this wrong..........it's also none of your business as why I asked the question. This is a public forum and thought I would participate in a thread without rude comments. I don't think that I asked why rudely. If I did I apologize.

I don't care if someone wants to tattoo every part of their body......I have nothing against tattoos (just don't care for them----as some employers). I really thought I could ask a simple question and get a simple answer as to why some want them. I ask a lot of people in person the same question and get some really interesting stories.
