Only 80 people? Was the room full? Could they have taught more or did DPS limit attendance because of venue size?
I figure they need to average 200+ at each renewal class to certify the existing instructor base.

Thanks to Mr. Cotton for the qualification offer but the day job has me chained to a heavy ball and an endless wall of rock in front of me so unable the 29OCT event.
If perhaps there is another opportunity in NOV count me in. If not, and there is another instructor that is unable the 29th and wants to qualify/qualify pm or respond and we can work on a plan B.

That is all the room will hold. They said there are 3000+ instructors and 1/2 that amount needing requal. There are alot of Instructors that have not initiated the renewal process.

Soo... They're losing half their instructor base? Wow!

They did say they would be scheduling more classes before the end of the year.

They didn't say. Fact that Sgt Bamsch and Sherrie are the instructors it could be.

Remember not all instructors are needing to requal this year either.

Uhh, yes they do. Unless they are new instructors from earlier this year.

I think they have had 4 or 5 classes this year. @ 150 per class, we are looking at 600 to 750 instructors that do not need to renew.

As you say, the ones who took the class this year do not. They make up part of that 3000+, so was just reminding that all of the 3,000 do not.

That doesn't surprise me. With the changes, I can understand many deciding it doesn't pass the cost-benefit analysis. Especially the part timers who don't teach much and now they need to pay to get NRA certification, pay for DPS renewal, take time off their primary job for one or both of those classes, incur travel and hotel expenses for one or both of those classes, etc. Then after doing all that there's no more income from renewal classes.

I did the online requal in 2011 and was told then that I would have to shoot this requal. They told us in the class that in 2015 we would again get to requal online. Were there any old timer Instructors who went through the full requal in 2011 and only have to do the online requal this year?
Are they really holding 4/5 Instructors classes a year with 150 per class? My goodness...."back in my day", there was only one class a year in August and there were 200 in the class. Do we really need 600-750 new Instuctors a year added to the rolls. If we keep this up, the students will charge US to teach them.

I doubt there will be quite as many new instructor applicants, now that the original training requirements (NRA or other cert)are being enforced.
But, I kinda think the instructor classes are about like your regular CHL classes. A lot of instructor applicants will take the class, but never teach, just as a significant number of your CHL students will take the class, but never carry. Or they may teach a class or two - find out it wasn't the pot of gold they envisioned, and then quit.
