Let's not get it messed up. The incident was in Dallas County, *Alabama*, not Ok. The WFSA article linked to earlier includes this:

"McLaughlin's motive remains unclear. Sheriff Huffman does not think it was a robbery. He says words were exchanged between McLaughlin and the people inside the store but there was never any mention of a robbery or hold up or money."

So doesn't say that robbery was NOT a motive, but there is some thoughts that it doesn't seem likely. Article also says the sign was prohibiting *open* carry, not all carry. And from the earlier posts, it wouldn't matter anyway as you cannot forfeit your right to carry from a sign (in Alabama).

There is something weird here though. The fact that he let other customers go (didn't include them when he rounded up the CCW guy and the cashier) and didn't ask for money, and the CCW guy being indicted and awaiting trial for a sex crime against a minor...

IF... I were to read behind the lines and start speculating, I might make the jump that the guy who originally walked in was the father or other relative of the girl who was raped by the CCW guy. That would leave him still legally within his rights to defend himself in the state of Alabama, but much less of a hero. Ariticle alludes to "rumors and speculations" about motive also. Definitely gonna be a messy one.

That could make a strange kind of sense if the cashier was his daughter. Otherwise it makes no sense to abduct the store clerk at gunpoint too.

Sorry for my misinformed posts. I skimmed over the article too quickly. Because of the title of the thread is "Hold Up" I thought that this was a thwarted robbery. I jumped to the conclusion that a robber was leading the victims into the back room so he could rob the store. Maybe time will tell the complete story.

No problem. Completely understandable. And didn't mean any offense; just trying to keep us on-story. :-)

Great job on saving lives. I hope they do not charge the GG because there was a no gun sign on the door. Not sure about the laws in Alabama.

Apparently AL is an open carry state and the sign actually says no openly displayed guns, so that shouldn't be a problem.....but the shooter has another more serious problem in that he's about to stand trial for rape and enticing a child under 16 for immoral purposes.

It's Alabama so who knows but if so those problems predate the crazy guy looking for three bad mothers.
