WyattP,

One of the things often spoken of here is having to adjust your clothing to accommodate your EDC.

Like you, I wear shorts almost year around.

I typically wear ourdoor clothing, such as cargo shorts, a shirt and a cover garment, which for me is a vest. Under the vest, my G19 fits in an OWB bolatron holster (very high quality plastic rather than kydex) with a magazine carrier and fully loaded spare magazine located on the opposite side of my body. All hanging on a high quality gun belt.

In the hot summer months, I change from the above rig to no cover garment and use an OWB zippered rectangular pack (this is not a fanny pack) that also holds a spare magazine. This type holster looks like it could contain binoculars or camera gear.

If your gym shorts are made of nylon or similar material, and these are the only shorts you care to wear, the only way I can think to reasonably carry a pistol is the zippered OWB pack, I mentioned above. Or perhaps, a shoulder rig, but then you have a whole new set of requirements...

With shorts made of sturdier material your options will increase.
Yeah I hear you on the sturdier shorts, but i just don't wear any shorts with belt loops unless it's date night;). Surprisingly though, the nylon Nike Basketball shorts work perfect. I forgot to mention I also have my boxers under the iwb clip so it's both waste bands holding it up. I understand this is not a typical way people carry (maybe it is), but my small 9mm shield sits perfectly and doesn't pull down at all. I would recommend a similar combo for anyone wearing gym shorts. The thicker/wider the wasteband the better.
The holding it up is only the minor risk with this style carry. The drawing your weapon part may pose a problem if your holster comes out with your gun. I bring it up because I carried like this in gym pants once and experienced the problem.

Don't wear shorts and a bikini top to Walmart. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2011/07 ... -wal-mart/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I wear my Kahr CM9 in a sticky holster sometimes when I have gym shorts on. I do need to cinch the drawstring tight but once I do that, the holster and gun won't go anywhere.

I've been wearing sweat pants more often recently, and I found the (maybe not so) perfect solution.

Wear a belt, belt loops or not. I usually put on the sweatpants, throw a belt around my waist, tuck in my holster, and go. I've never had an issue with my holster coming up with my pistol.

Someone here made an "underbelt" out of an old pair of jeans (I think) so that he could wear his OWB holster IWB. IIRC, he said it worked pretty well. Let me see if I can find the post... BRB...

I could've sworn I bookmarked that thread, but apparently not. Sorry, I don't have time to find it now, but it's here somewhere.

How big is the M&P 9mm? Is it sub-compact, compact or full-size?

Queue the manliness jokes in 5, 4, 3...

Seriously - how much weight are the gym shorts good for?

Featherweight internal hammer revolver with Birami Hip Grip worked with 'normal', (read non-exercise asphalt pounding), outdoor activity.

Cutting grass, raking leaves, washing the car, and drinking beer while tending the grill is doable. Doing jumping jacks, if you should ever take the notion, probabally not.
