gigag, Do you carry a 9mm for duty?
All I know, is that I wouldn't want to get shot with any caliber.

good read, i've been strongly considering selling off my bedside glock21 and shifting to a 9mm. The fully loaded g21 with a light is just far too heavy for the wife to use if she had to.

There are several die-hard .45 guys in my office who talk much trash about the wimpy 9mm and the .40 "Short & Weak".
None of them have volunteered to stand in front of the berm and take a wimpy 9mm JHP between the shirt pockets

.
Just my .02,

I have a retired ICE agent friend that gets just short of offended when I pull out my 9mm, .38 or .380 when we go shoot. He doesn't believe a self defense caliber starts with anything smaller than a 4. It pushes him over the edge to offended when I out shoot him with my wimpy guns.

Then where does your inferiority complex come from?

Too many reasons to list. I've been thinking about getting a big ole F-250 and jack it up to compensate though.
C'mon, go big if you're going to do it. F350

You can get the same effect with a H-D and it fits in the garage.

After seeing a ton of ballistics gel tests and watching the video of the anesthesiologist covering the differences and effects of pistol wounds I was convinced. I traded my G30 for a G19 with the same sights and trigger I have in my "match/play" G34 so I'm always getting reinforced on the manual of arms and sight picture.
Telling my Dad was hard. I got the typical, "I've seen a 9mm fail to expand but I've never seen a .45 shrink."

If I do anything with the SO I use a 9. Though that gets more and more rare the busier work becomes.

I am happy with either 45 or 9mm. I have moved away from 40 simply because if I want bigger bullets, I will go 45. If I want capacity, I will go with 9mm. I don't want to compromise inbetween. I have a G21 and an XDm 9mm and either will get the job done.

My wife carries a Kimber Ultra Carry in .45ACP and she may switch to an M&P 9 Compact. She'd be doing it more because the reduced felt recoil would be easier on her hands. Arthritis is making it somewhat painful to shoot her Kimber.

I just couldn't do it; I tried, but I just couldn't!! I now have a hi-cap handgun on my hip and I still have a 1911 .45ACP on my hip. I forgot about a gun I haven't shot in at least 15 to 20 years. It's a Paraordnance frame, Caspian slide, Wilson barrel (wouldn't do that again), Bomar sights and Brown parts. I had it built when I was shooting IPSC and Paraordnance was only making frames. It's a bit on the heavy side, but I was surprised that the felt weight isn't much if any heavier than my 5" Government Model. Life is good!

Life is good with 14+1!.
When I carry my Para 14-45, I don't think the gun is that much heavier, but I definitely notice the grip being bulkier to conceal. It is like have a short length of 2"x4" sticking out of my holster.
Also, with two spare mags, carrying 43 rounds of 230 gr goodness
does get heavy!

I feel some of your pain Charles. I'm not a 1911 guy, but TAM converted me over to .45ACP a couple years ago when he let me shoot a new Kimber he had at the time. Now, I am really enjoying the two double-stack Glocks, 21SF and 30SF, the latter for EDC. I keep the regular 10 rounder in the gun, so 10+1, and two 13 round spares on the other side. So, while I don't have as many rounds as I'd have with a 9mm, I do have closer to a 9mm number of rounds than a 1911 does and in a flying ashtray that I'm doing better with all the time.

I went through the same soul searching and came up with a different solution - more .45 ACP magazines!

Excellent solution. Hmmm, wonder where I can carry that third spare mag.
