IMHO, no leash, no fence, then you no control.

I had a stray dog that was tearing up my yard all the time and I couldn't catch him. I called the animal control and they came out and couldn't catch him either. They told me if I caught him to call them so they could pick him up. Useless governmental department.

My very well trained dog was in his own yard and responses to my voice commands.

What about Rich's private property rights!!!??? These are inviolate in Texas.

Better put up that 30.05 circle-slash-net sign.... Darn if these open net carrying yahoo's didn't have to mess it up for those of us that don't want to show off our dogs by parading them around our own property....
What if your dog is "printing" under a blanket in your front yard?

Is that publicly displaying a dog in a manner calculated to alarm?
What if you are "brandishing" a leash!!!?

On top of the city ordinance, there may also be HOA restrictions. That wouldn't involve the dog catcher but could have other consequences if neighbors pushed the issue.

You're very well trained dog will do what it wants when it wants you have the illusion of control.

Yeah, I'm in my first home with an HOA. There are some pro's & cons. There are issues that could start costing $$$. I know this situation wasn't about HOA but it made me think of it.

Just another pretty penny for the pound. They look forward to catching nice breeds of dogs,
especially puppies. That's what reels in the big cash. Watch out!

Another way to look at it is the "dog catcher" didn't just snatch them up and was nice enough to let you know without any issues. It's not their falt the laws are a little screwy. Good luck getting those laws changed.

If we could satisfy my original question, can I keep my dog in my front yard without a leash or fence?
After we I get this answered, please tell me all about the illusion that I think I have any control over my dog.

If there's a leash law that allows the dog catcher to enter YOUR unfenced private property and catch YOUR dogs I would be looking at building a fence. Or better yet, figure out how to get the heck out of the burbs and into the sticks.

Rich - According the article I linked from FM Leader, they changed the ordinance in 2010 so that the answer seems to be no...you have to have a fence or leash...

I wonder if a dog catcher can ignore a no trespass sign.
