First of all, I only CC. However, for those that chose to OC. Tell him if he really wants to see one, rent it at a range or go to a gun store. If he is what he say he is, then he would not ask a fellow gun owner to show their gun in his place of business period. Just my 2 dimes.

I wouldnt even gand my best friend my weapon unless I was in the privacy of my home.

Id completely clear the weapon when i did and that defeats the purpose of carrying it in public.

:iagree: Not wise, not safe and stupid IMO.
:iagree:
Given the above, does it really matter if it's legal or not?

Nope. Sometimes the "legal" ain't the "smart" or the "right".

Someone asking to "fondle" my loaded gun tells me a LOT about them. I would politely decline.

:iagree: totally. Never, ever, ever take your gun out of your holster to show it to a total stranger, no matter how nice he seems.

"Don't get out of the boat. Never get out of the boat!" (from Apocalypse Now; the movie, as reminded to us by another forum member last week. )

Show and tell in an uncontrolled environment isn't wise. In other words, it doesn't matter if it's legal or not, it's not wise and that's enough. Don't.

However, I once visited a friend I've known since about 1980 in his shop. He showed me one if his carry guns, I showed him mine. The doors were locked, it was after hours, and we weren't exactly in public.

Safe gun people will always handle weapons in a way that's obviously safe. Finger off the trigger for me, finger nice and straight so you have visual confirmation I'm following the rules. I don't remember the details of the situation, but I know - no doubt - we cleared our guns with the best practices we could muster.

But except for a situation that's like that, a close analog to the way you might check out the other guy's gear in a practiced, safe manner at a gun range, my pistol is bashful. It likes to stay quietly in the leather.

There is a related thread on this board right now about a guy unholstering to try out different holsters at an Academy. It's interesting to see the differences in consensus between that scenario and this one.
