I suppose some don't become criminal due to their faith, going to church, etc. although, I've known many who've lived a solid religious upbringing and still became criminals of one stripe or another. Or, if not a criminal an utterly despicable person.
I'm not a believer, but I live a completely crime free life with high moral standards.
Not all of us need to believe to be decent people.
I'm not convinced religion is an end all, be all panacea for the worlds ills.

I remember recently being back in my home town and going to church with my parents. We, as usual, were late but I noticed two older well dressed gentlemen wandering through the parking lot. When I asked my parents about it, they said we now have deacons patrolling the parking lot (and carrying, if I had to bet). I thought it was the craziest thing in the world (I mean its a church parking lot in small town Texas for goodness sake). Apparently, they were preparing well.
Also, I think we are getting to the point where we all need to take a breath and follow Javier730's original post about religion. Regardless of which side of this you fall on, there is a reason we have the forum rules on discussing religion, namely to keep us all from going at each others throats when we take something someone else said as offensive to our personal beliefs and run with it.

After that day we started a team that monitored the parking lot during services.
This exposure is why the wife and I don't keep garage door opener transmitters in our vehicles. We use a code pad mounted on the outside door frame. I'll accept getting rained on a bit occasionally to know that no one is going to do what you just described.
I also treat the door between the garage and the house as a perimeter door with a solid deadbolt and I keep it locked. If someone managed to get into the garage, he's got another barrier to overcome before he's in to living space.

We've had car break-ins at our congregation off and on for years. Warmer weather is here and we'll have to be more diligent.

I for one refute the existence of a or any god, no one can prove a god or gods have or do exist and before you say something silly like prove god doesn't exist, prove he does other than quoting a book written by Constantine during the council of Nicea in 348 AD as is counted now. you are free to believe as you choose but please don't ascribe actions to a fignewton of imagination, ascribe it to what is actually quantifiable such as the parents of these kids wont bust that butt nor pay attention to these kids cause GAW..d will fix it so lemme axe you a kwestshun, has GAWD done anything except create bad kids in the last 20 years? BTW I went to catholic schools and was taught the drivel, war taught me its all a buncha garbage. please use Occam and hanlons razors before saying a word TAM and stop proselytizing here.
JP171, I am not upset at all. Like I said in my previous post:
I understand that not everybody on this board is a Christian, or even religious. That is certainly your right to strongly disagree with my words, and I will defend your right to dispute them with my life. But this is how I see it.
You and I see things differently. That's all. You call it proselytizing. I was merely stating my opinion. If I had called on you to accept my beliefs (I did not), THAT would be proselytizing. Without wanting to start a separate disagreement, I could just as easily say that your above comments were proselytizing for atheism.......which is your right, and which because I
respect your right to do so, I won't tell you to stop. I heard you. I disagree. But I'm glad that you were free to express those thoughts, and I will NOT reply with a whole paragraph to disprove your belief in the lack of a deity, while telling you to never speak it again. Because..... freedom.
Javier730 wrote:TexasCHLforum Rules:

Again, I wasn't challenging anyone about religion. I gave my opinion for why I think that the world is becoming an nastier place. I included in those thoughts that (A) I fully understood that others may disagree, even
strongly disagree, and that I would defend their right to disagree with my life if necessary.....and (B) that I was merely stating my opinion. I ended with "YMMV" - which is a tacit acknowledgement that not everyone is going to see it the way I do, and that is just fine with me.
My apologies to anyone whose constitutional right to not be offended was violated by my opinion of things.

That's pretty much how I saw it. TAM wasn't trying to convince anyone to believe the same as him, yet it did seem like JP171 was trying to convince others that there is no God.

yes, we have had a dead bolt on the garage door since, and it's always locked. We don't use our garage door anymore, our garage has pretty much become my husband's workshop, but when we did, we kept the opener hidden, not on the visor like before.

Here's a
video on another garage door vulnerability you may not be aware of, along with the fix.

What a great idea.

And windows in your garage door may let in light, but sure are a good way to see if your vehicle is there or you are gone. Not a fan of them in the door.
