Why does anyone care what their "policy" is???

I want to know if they understand 30.06 and 30.07. They have a way to accomplish keeping someone out and it's not by publishing their "policy".

Give an official 30.06 or 30.07 notification.

Doesn't SXSW happen on public roads and sidewalks? And the majority of the buildings around are bars so they are 51% locations anyways. It seems like they would only be able to post the locations that are not one of the two previous locations.

What/where is SXSW? Just askin', ain't goin'....

They can "cancel" your ticket/wristband to the show - that's a civil contract between you and them. That's what they're alluding to.

Yes, if by purchasing a ticket you are agreeing contractually as a matter of law to conditions encumbering that purchase them that condition may be stated using any non .06 or .07 language.

That is exactly it. By purchasing a ticket you are agreeing not to carry at any SXSW event. If you haven't and only attend the free events where purchase of a ticket is not required then you haven't agreed to anything and are free to carry. IMHO, IANAL, etc.

For the most part, yes but they also hold a lot of conferences and industry gathering type things at the convention center, which is city owned and shouldn't be able to be posted, I wouldn't think. There are probably other venues that are city owned (maybe the Austin Music Hall?) that host events. I'm still not clear who actually owns the Moody Theater, which is kind of the epicenter of this thing.

But since Paxton doesn't seem to be taking any action on SB 273, I'm having a hard time seeing what legal consequences SXSW or the City of Austin might face if they do post these venues illegally. Also, all the various time limits and notification requirements in the law would seem to make it very difficult to do anything about these temporary events anyway, since they're going to be over with by the time the deadlines run. And then you've probably got the issue of alcohol vendors getting entire venues designated 51% (which is a recurring problem with the Moody Theater, I think).

Bottom line, we've come a long way but we still have a ways to go.

OH, and stay away from downtown Austin for the week. I used to work down there and it's an absolute nightmare for regular folks during this festival. As ridiculous as it sounds for the city to be asking employers to give their people the day off, it's actually the best thing they could do.

Ban alcohol and enforce drug laws??? Why would you want to infringe upon other's rights like that?? You must be one of those conservative types that want to punish everybody just because a few people make mistakes!! ( What color did we decide sarcasm was?)

Yeah, private businesses can impose all kinds of crazy restrictions if you have to buy a ticket to enter. Check out the prohibited items section on the House of Blues Dallas website. They have some really weird stuff in there. Last time I went, they made me empty my pockets and then patted me down. I was not amused.
