Instructors will have to come to Florence for renewal classes & will have to certify each other for proficiency.(you'll have to get another active instructor to provide you w a CHL-100 for proficiency portion only). There won't be statewide classes this year.

Infoman, does this mean that we can pre-qualify with another instructor before the class, as opposed to qualifying with DPS at the class? Big time saver, if so.

I'll host a certification "party" at PSC when we find out when we can start certifying each other. The only fee will be food -- bring something so we can turn it into a picnic. It will also be a good opportunity to network and talk about the very few changes in gun laws. For those of you who are new instructors, PSC Shooting Club is in Friendswood, about 25 miles south of downtown Houston on I-45.

Sounds like a great idea! I am in. Of course, we will have to allow more time for the food than the shoot.

For those in the N Dallas/Greenville/Sherman area, I will also host an instructor certification event. I have a private range near Trenton. I will post that here when we find out more about a schedule.

Most likely anytime after July 1, 2017. which is also when you can pay the renewal fee online & send in your docs.. CHL-90, CHL-100, NRA docs, etc. Instructor renewal classes would be starting in late summer. held at Florence, TX most likely.

Does anyone plan a qualification event in the Fort Worth area? Maybe we could talk Defender Outdoors or Total Shooting Sports into hosting an event.

Are there any special instructions for those of us who also hold School Safety certification?

I would think that the student/instructors who attended the School safety course have already qualified with the handgun this year
We shot almost 200 Rounds Counting the original CHL/LTC at the beginning on day one.

Did you get a CHL-100?

You will have to provide a CHL-100 signed off by another current instructor. (Not DPS employee)

And LTC instructors qualify with both SA & revolver.

And instructors still need to score at least 225 with each gun, right?

I received confirmation from DPS that LTC Instructors who also have School Safety Instructor Certification only have to pass the LTC re-certification class in order to retain both LTC and School Safety certification.

Any harm in being proactive and sending those documents in after July 1? Or should one wait until DPS calls for them?
