puma guy wrote:But for the fact there is some sort of marking on the right side of the frame I'd say it's hand made. Those markings rule that out. It is extremely crudely made no matter who did the work. There were many early 20th century Saturday night special revolvers in America as well as abroad, so there's no telling where it originated. This has to be the sorriest piece of crap I've ever seen. The answer to you question ; a cheap one!
has the same marking on the frame and on the cylinder. It's hard to see but looks like some sort of a flag above a letter U. The flag didn't show on the cylinder. I tried to google it, but couldn't find anything that matched...

$10 seems like a pretty good price. I agree that it will make a good decoration. It would be nice to know from when and where it came, because you know that people are going to ask.

eta: actually the flag may be an illusion. Could just be two symbols (one looks like a sideways and solid D, the other some kind of pentagon or something) above the letter U.

That appears to be a German inspection mark (1950 & later).

I too originally thought the marks on the frame were proof marks, however I think they are actually damage from the firearm being pressed against a screen, grate, or similar object. I had initially decided it was a late 50s or early sixties saturday night special (cue Lynyrd Skynyrd). This firearm was most likely manufactured prior to the GCA of 1964 going into effect.

Now I did post a like to this thread on facebook and ask a friend of mine who is a gunsmith, he thinks its a cheap 60s rig as well.

I googled pictures of the british bulldog 32 pistol mentioned previously. It does look very similar to the pictures google came up with. Including the screwed on trigger guard.

Of course, it could just be a copy.

I agree with Pawpaw. It appears to be a German proof mark (Crown over U), the standard proofmark of Germany circa 1891-1939.

As to who made it and when is anybody's guess, if you don't have any other marks to help identify it. :???:

Hope this helps. :thumbs2:

Actually, if you look again at the PDF I linked, it is not German, but East German. I missed that the first time around.
