Not a bank robbery, but how about a guy that got his gun stolen as he was OCing?

I think I read that turned out to be bogus.

74novaman wrote: And as a caveat, I will grant you that this is a rare occasion, most people OCing don't get robbed, the guy should have had much better situational awareness (whether carrying concealed or openly), etc etc....

But you can't say that no one has ever been targeted for a crime because they were OCing. At least one guy would disagree with ya. :tiphat:
My problem with saying "most people who OC dont get robbed is this, we have already talked about how rare it is for people to OC, think about how small of a % of people actually get robbed, probably less then .1% (based on population and reported robberies in 2009 assuming I know how to do math), so the odds of people who OC (also far less then 1% of the population) getting robbed are extreamly low, not because OC is or is not detering robbers, but just because you have a better chance of winning the lottery ;-)

that makes sense in my mind at least... :biggrinjester:

so what I am trying to get at, is as was pointed out earlier, the lack of proof is not proof that it prevents robberies

LOL... I just read the story. I got a kick out of what the neighbors said about him. He was known as "The Guy With The Gun"... Bawahahahahaha. That is some funny stuff right there. In my hood we have "The guy with the telescope". Rumor has it he isn't looking at the stars. Then we have "The guy who Is always mowing his lawn". I am "The Guy with no wife" ... they are either afraid I am going to mess with their wives or think I am gay... not sure who thinks what just yet "rlol" . We even have a "The guy with big bushes". I am kind of bummed out we don't have "The guy with the gun".

They said he is kind of scary, walking around with his gun out in the open like that...LOL... maybe the OC folks are right. Maybe it does make you a feared person. J/K

By the by by. Does anyone know if this story really happened or not? Maybe a link? That looks like a legitimate news story to me.

I think I read that turned out to be bogus.

According to OCDO, another big google hit for "man open carrying robbed" was bogus. Here is one of the threads on that instance:
http://forum.opencarry.org/forums/showt ... of-his-gun

I haven't been able to find anything about the occurrence I cited as being bogus.

I thought it was the same one. Anyway it's anonymous and doesn't look like there was even a police report just a claim without a source.

I personally believe the 2nd ammendment is my carry permit...however I prefer licensed concealed carry and recognize all the work and thank everyone that helped pass CC in 1995. Every war has many small battles before an overall victor is decided. In 2013 I would rather gain campus carry over open carry. I would also rather have fewer off limit zones than open carry. I would rather win the war overall with many small victories than win a single battle that in the long run loses the war.

TFC TSRA NRA OCDO are all fighting this battle. Some use conventional techniques while another is using a technique that sabotages the work of their own allies because things aren't moving fast enough or have a different view of how to fight a given battle.

I have a chl because I choose to jump through the hoops to get one and plan to maintain it. It was no great exercise to get. I signed the petition for open carry because it is my belief that I should be able to carry openly if I see the need. At this point in time I do not see a need to open carry and would rather see less restricted concealed carry.

Had I known the mentality and immaturity of many oc'ers I would have never signed said petition

Thank you ladies and gents for helping me come to this conclusion.

Mr Cotton and all admin and mods of this forum thank you for providing a civil platform and attempting to maintain civility on this forum I thoroughly enjoy reading and offering my oppinions here over some other avenues because I believe most member here have the ability to use tact and express disagreement without flaming another individual.
