It's been nearly two months so I decided to check the status of my application online. It said my application was incomplete- "missing info, "detailed letter sent"
I called them and they said my finger prints were rejected due to poor quality. Terrific!
They gave me the contact info for a company that does them electronically and I have an appointment on Thursday. I'm told they scan my fingerprints electronically and then print new cards which I have to mail to the DPS/CHL folks.
The finger print cards I originally sent them had lots of info we filled out during the class. I wonder if I need to do the same thing for these prints as well.

Also, as an update, the actual license itself showed up in my mail box yesterday (2009-05-09). That makes exactly 85 days since I dropped the completed app (with prints, check, etc) in the mail.

I called them today to check the status. They told me that my background check is completed and they are waiting for my license to be printed. However, there was a problem with the manufacturer that prints the licenses and a large batch including mine were ruined. They told me this would delay my getting the license by several more weeks.
I took the class on
January 17th!!!!
Mailed completed packet to CHL on
January 31st (class instructor didn't have all the needed forms so there was a short delay between completing the course and sending the packet in).
March 26th: Discovered that my finger prints were rejected.
March 29th: sent new finger prints
April 4th: CHL folks receive the new finger prints.
May 27th: Told my background check completed but first attempt to print my license didn't work so there will be additional delay of a few weeks.
Roughly 120 days and counting......

115 Days to get mine in Harris County. I only hope that enough of us push our reps, senators and the governor on this that is gets fixed.

I kinda think it is like the Texas law makers unpugging the clock a few weeks ago at 11:58 PM in order to finish a few hours business. They could not get through by the Midnight deadline.
They 'offically' have 60 days to process the application.
But, when does the 60 days start? I think they keep many (most) of our applications 'on stand-by' until they have time to start processing a new batch. I believe they keep large piles of application packets piled up, and our 60 day time frame begins when they get around to opening it. I have no proof of this, and to reduce delays, I sent in a cashiers check instead of a personal check. Sure, I could check the cashed date on a personal check, but I wanted to reduce any potential delays that might occure while they were waiting for a personal check to 'clear'.
I can only hope my application was as complete as I think it was, and look forward to receiving a PIN number some day. Anyway, it makes me check the mail box on a daily basis.
