Just for what it's worth, I have a Texas CHL and frequently travel into Utah and the northwestern part of the country. As you know, I cannot carry in Washington state with my Texas CHL. So, I decided to add a Utah CHL to my wallet.
When I was in Albuquerque recently, I contacted an instructor there and asked about getting the Utah class done. He, much to his credit, was not willing to allow me to attend his class until I mentioned that I already held a Texas CHL. So, I spent about 4 hours with him and finished the requirements. And no, he did not mention anything about Texas law, although he did give me an interesting booklet outlining the New Mexico laws.

Which legislators have said they want to change the Texas laws on reciprocity?
Pro or con, I think this is something voters deserve to know.
Thanks!

Do you really expect me to disclose confidential information and ruin my working relationship in Austin? Perhaps your time would be better spent pressuring irresponsible instructors to change their advertising -- if it's not too late.

Who said they weren't being open and honest? When I get information in a confidential setting I have neither the duty nor the right to disclose that information to anyone, especially on an open Internet forum. If you or cbr600 what to know who has a problem with the way Utah licenses are being advertised, then start making phone calls to elected officials and find out.
The information was given to me in the hopes we could avoid a problem by getting the advertising practices changed. That's what friends do; that's what longstanding, trusted working relationship do for you. I will not betray a trust, nor lose valuable resources, nor harm future legislative efforts by disclosing confidential information simply because a handful of people want to know. For that matter, I don't know who would support a bill to change current law. I just know the level of concern over the "Utah problem."

Thankfully few people will adopt this philosophy as it would most certainly destroy our ability to pass pro-gun legislation. Why did you want to know who has a problem with Utah CFP advertising if you are going to vote against all incumbents anyway? Perhaps it was just to stir the pot?

I think the 'clean house and start over' method is a good way to lose ground instead of gain it. It's the proverbial throwing out of the baby with the bath water. We have lots of seasoned folks in office that are very big proponents of gun rights and have the experience to help push legislation that will be of a big benefit for us. They understand how the system works and can properly move things the right direction. Helping oust them from office would be a BIG mistake
The best thing any of us can do is research who are the best ones for your interests and vote for them. The TSRA and NRA help with this as far as ratings of the politicians and where they stand on our gun rights. I have seen a LOT of folks ll research and investigate their gun purchase decision to death, but just barely look at the issues and stances of the politicians on the ballot before they cast their vote.
All I can say is do your homework and vote.

Assuming a Utah license costs an additional $70, WFAA is claiming that there are 21,500 Utah licenses (exclusively - no Texas CHL) issued annually. Does anyone know if that number is even remotely possible? Or is the media simply lying through their teeth as usual?

I was hoping someone who knows the answer would respond. My request was no different than somebody asking if a specific business is posted with a 30.06 sign, or if it's legal to have a concealed handgun in a car on a college campus, or any number of other requests for information.
