Waiting on the background check was torture for sure. Although I have a totally clean record, the political climate promoted by the current ... errr, ummm ... shall we say, "Federal Administrative Branch" had me concerned that my recent history of (gasp) "purchasing several firearms" since November might have thrown up red flags on my CHL application, even though this is Texas and the CHL process should have nothing to do with the Feds. But that's the kind of paranoia (or at least "concern") being fostered by actions and rhetoric in Washington, D.C., and I'm pretty sure it made me much more nervous during the wait.
I totally share that experience and sentiment. I'm sure the NSA is reading this right now!

WOO HOO, shows Mailed today, so should have it in the next 4-5 days based on it probably sitting in their outgoing box for 2-3 days before it actually does mail.

I ordered a holster from crossbreed but they have been taking 2-3 months to ship, so I ordered something else to hold me over last night in anticipation of getting plastic next week.
So guessing my whole process will look a lot like 77 Days from Applicaton to Plastic, and 44 days Mailbox to Mailbox. I personally think it helps to do the online submission early as possible, think it speeds up the rest of the process, but someone would have to do some statistics around what people post to determine.
4/3/13 - Electronic Application Submitted/Paid for fees
4/10/13 - Electronic Fingerprinting
4/27/13 - CHL
5/6/13 - Mailed everything regular USPS mail
6/3/13 - Just now checking status for first time since mailing - currently shows waiting BG check, all other items above are green.
6/11/13 - Manufacturing
6/13/13 - Mailed
Came in the mail today

I count Day 1 as the day DPS received the packet in Austin since that was the first possible day the application could have been worked.
04.06.13 (Sat) - CHL Class
04.07.13 (Sun) - CHL Online Application
04.08.13 (Mon) Photo
04.09.13 (Tues) - Electronic Fingerprints & mailed packet priority mail with tracking
04.11.13 (Thurs) - DPS received CHL Packet (Day 1)
05.18.13 (Sat) - Day 38 1st system update; everything received; background check pending
06.07.13 (Fri) - Day 58 Background Check completed; Manufacturing pending
06.08.13 (Sat) - Day 59 Mailed
06.11.13 (Tues) - Postmark date
06.13.13 (Thurs) Plastic in hand 64 Days mailbox to mailbox
A few things to note. Someone posted if the status shows "mailed" on a Saturday, it probably won't be postmarked until Tuesday. That was the case for me. Also, they used my driver's license photo instead of the photo I sent with the documents. I don't know why the DPS-CHL folks don't change their instructions to "Submit 2 passports pictures ONLY if you do not have a valid Texas Driver's License. We'll use the picture on the Texas Driver's License unless you are notified we need a new one." It would just make things easier since it appears they use the DL photo in the majority of the cases.
Ah, it's good to live in Texas!!!

I'm starting to worry a little. Seems like I submitted everything ages ago, still no updates. Still checking on it 10 times a day.

You're still well within the 60 days so your paperwork may be on a vacationing employee's desk.
I've done the 10x a day check as well, I learned that it updates at 6a, so if no changes after that no reason to check until the next day.

Finally, finally, finally. Plastic in hand. DPS received my packet on 4/3 and I received my plastic 6/13, roughly 70 days.

Just when I thought the fella that was supposed to mail them out went on a bender to Bonnaroo, I got mine in today!
74 days mailbox to mailbox.
Just took out my first handgun for a shopping trip to the grocery store (HK USP 9mm Compact). Tonight my Springfield XDs .45 will accompany us to dinner (and not at a 51% place).
Good luck to the rest of you guys waiting.

congrats Imsowright and ChillMickelson!
Hang in there, dooey99. I see you got your e-mail confirmation on May 10 ... for many of us, the next update has come about five weeks after that initial confirmation, which in your case would be somewhere around June 14 or 15. Since the 15th falls on Saturday, then perhaps Monday will bring an update for you. Good luck--I'm sure it will show up soon!
