Actually, .22LR has a lot of uses. When times get rough, it will put small game on the table when larger calibers will turn the meat into mush. It's effective for snakes, rodents,& varmints.
It can also be effective and inexpensive practice ammo. I have a 1911 set up with a .22 slide conversion which is perfect for getting back to basics without the distraction of recoil & muzzle blast.
Besides, it's fun!!!

I am now advocate for NOT hoarding 22LR and 9mm. I am stocked for my needs but the demand for those caliber is ridiculous.

Walked into WM tonight to buy some clays and 12 g value packs. Asked about 22LR. Yes, one box Federal 550 value pack. $19.97, the same price I paid almost 2 years ago. Said they get them every 2 weeks.

I stopped overnight in the RV in Deming, NM last night. We needed to get a few things at Walmart. I sauntered by the ammo counter. I saw a sight I have not seen in a while. There were 5 or 6 Mega Boxes of 250 9mm 115 grain behind the glass for $69 each. I got the attendant to unlock the case and he asked me what I wanted. I asked for 1 of the Megas. He asked if that was all and I said yes. I guess I could have bought them all if I had wanted, but I did n't want to be considered a hoarder so I walked out with just one box. So, if you are in the Deming, NM area in the near future and are in need of some 9mm rounds, be sure to stop in.

Gander Mountain's ammo notification sent info that most stores had .22 LR in stock. All three Houston stores were included.

If you are looking for .380 ammo, the Walmart in Grand Prairie at I20 and Great Southwest Parkway had 10-12 boxes of 50 round WWB and 5-7 boxes of 100 round WWB last night. I don't own a .380 gun so I did not purchase.

Probably more "ammo for sale" than "ammo on sale" but I was at Gander Mountain at 99 and 59 (Sugar Land / Richmond) today and they had plenty of handgun ammo (all brands, all calibers, plinking and self defense), plenty of 5.56 and 7.62, and amazingly also had some 22LR (boxes of Federal Match Loads - 50 count for $24). Not the best pricing but the first 22LR I've seen on shelves in quite some time.
Maybe we are over the hump...
