Well, I *may* be out soon.

Got the call from DPS today that my license would be in the mail tomorrow. Started checking with DPS at day 60 with the response "Awaiting FBI background check". Contacted my State Representative two weeks later to assist with moving it off of that status and onto the next. Discovered that I had swapped my middle and last names on the application and got that fixed. Called a couple more weeks and gave them a chance to determine the status of my FBI check. Got the return call from DPS this morning that that investigation was still pending. This being day 91 and already having contacted my Rep I had already made the decision to contact the Governors office, which I did early this afternoon. Late this afternoon I received a call from DPS stating that my license would be in the mail tomorrow.

Now, I don't know with any certainty that my message to the Governors office had any affect. But I suspect that my application had been completed previously and left on someone's desk and DPS "completed processing" when they got a call from the Governors office. My application still shows as processing on the web site. And, at this point, I have been apparently misinformed by DPS so many times that I won't believe it until I have the plastic in my hands.

Now the next phase of waiting begins. Here's to hoping it is short.

Still no response from my e-mails to my rep and governors office. I guess I will try calling them. I would just like to have my license before my Thanksgiving travels...that would be nice.

Day 82 today. I have e-mailed my State Rep and the Governors office. Still nothing. When I called the DPS they told me they were waiting on my background check from Tarrant County (Arlington, Texas) and to call back in two weeks. Man, I hope it does not take that long. :grumble

Hi Everyone!
I applied online, then sent the papers back on 8/1/2008. Return Receipt dated receipt on 8/4/2008. Today is 11/15/2008, just checked online "Still processing". How much longer will Hurricane Ike push us back? Met a guy at gun show last weekend. He applied in middle of July and just got his! I need more patience!
Thanks!

Well I just received a letter from the DPS saying there is a problem with my application. I had a Reckless Damage arrest 22 years ago when I was 17 years old ( young and dumb High School parting incident in South Padre Island during the 4th of July when I was going back to my hotel room drunk and broke a light in the hall way. ). Anyway, I told them about that incident on my application but they say they need certified copies of the "judgment and sentence from the courts". This was one of those things that I spent the night in jail and paid my $300 fine and was let go. Again, I am sure I can work this out but have no idea who to call to get this information. The good news is this is just a set back and should not inhibit me getting my CHL, but what an ordeal. Any advice I could get from anyone on this would be appreciated. I will call the DPS Monday to see who I need to call to get this ball rolling.
