No, an 18 year old can buy a rifle or shotgun. And an 18 year old can buy from someone without an FFL.
In this case he Brandished or pointed it at someone at the very least he was breaking the law because of that and being under age in possession of a hand gun.
He may or may not have lawfully possesed the handgun, you have not established any law yet that makes it unlawful for a 15 year old to have possession of it.
And we don't know for a fact if the kid didn't have a justification for pulling it. Remember, the news seldom gets it right. (not defending the kid, just pointing out a few things)
Was the kid legal to have the gun I think not, you think what ever you want makes no difference to me.
Thinking means nothing, the law does.
=======================
He was not 18 and it was not a rifle or a shot gun.
If he bought it from someone then they provided it for him at 15 years of age.
Re-read the statute.

Even if that meant the child could not own it, the age is 17, not 21.
Small nitpick. The age is 16.

I stand corrected and beg everyone Indulgence of my Ignorance of Texas laws I have searched for some time and I found this reference.
Please forgive my stupidity and I now believe all kids should have Handguns.
I humbly submit to my mistake.
============================================
Texas
There are no state laws prohibiting a minor from possessing firearms, including handguns and semiautomatic assault weapons. Minors do not even need parental permission to be in possession of a firearm.
No selling or giving firearms to minors under 18, unless for supervised loans of firearms or for limited lawful activities, such as hunting.

Driving without a license is a class C. Driving while license invalid (suspended or revoked) is now a class C also unless it is a repeat offense for a DWI suspension, as of Sep. 1.

A minor who owns or is in control of a motor vehicle and all the etceteras can have a concealed handgun in the vehicle, as can an adult.
Um, people, this thread is about a kid who is dead. He isn't going to be charged with a crime.

100% speculation, but I'm betting the guy told the banger off for cutting him off, banger curses him and brandishes, 30 year old opens fire.
No 15 year old decent/good kid is driving on a "restricted drivers license" and carrying. Besides, since he is carrying I'll bet he has no drivers license.
Not sure how it will turn out, but I am sorry for his parents. I'm not one to mourn the death of bangers however if it turns out that way. I guess we will see.

Armed 15 year old boy driving a Cadillac at 3:45 AM in Oak Cliff...
Pretty safe speculation that he was a gangbanger.

How is a teenager driving a vehicle that can cause mayhem different from the same teenager having a firearm that can cause mayhem?

I though minimum age for drivers license was 16 for the state of Texas, unless you had a hardship license?

Yep. And hardship licenses generally have some restrictions on them. Like they can only drive to and from school etc. And I don't think the 15 year old was on his way to school at 3:45AM
