Ok thanks for all the great feedback. Went to the range this morning, with front sight/trigger my main focus to work on. I also got the CHL target: and low and behold the target was about 2x bigger than the one I was shooting last week!! Instant condfidence boost.

So focusing on the front sight and letting everything else be in the peripheral. I had to make an effort to use the tip of my finger ( normal resting against trigger is 2nd joint).

I started out loading the mag with 4-5 rounds only. I shot much better this time. All shots at 3yrds were in the 9,10 and X. At 7 yards all were in the 8,9,10,X rings with one in the 7 ring. At 15 yards i got 1 10 ring and several near (some off the green but on the paper). I used the aguilar ammo that i purchased a coulple weeks ago.
I am so much more confident in my weapon and shooting now. More practice to come!!


I feel I could ace the shooting test now ( I know not really a bragging acomplishment). I was so focused on other issues that I had forgotten the basics. I on the right path now.

fadlan12 - I've been in your shoes before, after feeling like I'd never get better, suddenly I was doing better than I'd ever expected. When I did my CHL target qual, I only missed the silhouette once, all the rest were 5 pointers except for one 4pointer. I can't explain that one stray shot. I shot with a Glock 19. I had a Kimber 1911 but wasn't feeling confident with it yet. Now, I know I could do as well or better with it. Just takes practice, and I fully endorse the dry fire technique.

Sounds similar to my problem with the factory grips on my 1911. Hogues bulked it up enough to get my natural finger position where it needed to be.

FWIW, I put three somewhat rushed shots in the groin (well, it would still have given me a good chance at running away ) of the silhouette from 7 yards when I qualified, then made a much better showing from 15, so don't feel bad if you don't make a ragged hole. It's all pass/fail now anyway.

Out of my first 20 shots at 3yards I had 4 through almost the same hole on the edge of the 9,10 ring. I shot my friends rented kimber II, that gun was extremely easy to shoot. Easy to hit in the 4x4 inch square on demand.

I have a pachy slip over but the grips are not changable. I still love shooting this gun when I do it right

These days, it's mostly shooting. SWMBO (KD5OUY) and I are sharing a car, and I haven't quite persuaded her to let me set up the dual-bander that still works in it yet. The landlord says I can put up an antenna, but my best ones are at the back bottom corner of the storage locker, so I haven't even had my 10m rig fired up in a while.

Since I work deep nights, I'm usually too tired to take advantage of the early morning openings, (if it weren't for a wireless connection,laptop and a recliner I wouldn't be on here right now) and I'm busy getting ready for work in the evening.

If I can get her to go to the good range more often, maybe she'll want the mobile gear in the car, since our cell phones get no signal whatsoever out there OTOH, she still thinks a $15 range fee is too high (guess I shouldn't show her the ammo receipts)

I may try to do something on 10m, or try to join up with the local university's club if they do something. Or I may just go to the range and try for a few contacts on the drive out there...I wonder how Tac Pro would feel about a wire antenna draped off the sniper training tower...hmmm...darn, they've got a sniper tournament going that day...nevermind.

Sounds like your doing well. As you've seen there is a wealth of information here and good people that are willing to help.

Just keep working on the basics.

Also, I don't know where you're at, but if you ever get a chance to shoot with El Gato on this forum, take it. That man can shoot. I learn just watching him.

I was having same problem on my Sig 229R 9mm.....low and too left. Right hand , left eye dominant.

Slowed down some and stopped 'slapping' the tigger. Anticipation of recoil is right on...great comment....by the time you feel recoil ...the bullet has already hit the target. ...(so true txinvestigator). This is with three point system....

on my 239 Sig 9mm.....still getting used to the two point "dotting the I" sighting format...may in fact switch over to three point format as in my larger gun....
