That's the only reason I'm glad my congregation has not decided to open up a school in our (relatively) new facility. However, there is some encouraging "news." The law says carry on school premises is barred, and it then goes on to define premises as a building or portion of a building. So I would think that, if you stayed out of the portion of the building(s) that were used by the school, you'd be okay. The problem is what school held on a church facility does not use the auditorium for some functions (chapel, plays, assemblies, etc.)? This is, of course, my opinion, and IANAL.arthurcw wrote:Sorry for coming to the party late on this thread.
I have a Church Carry follow-up question. What about churches that have schools as well. Is the church proper OK and all School buildings off limits. And when the school classes attend services, is the church then off limits?
Basically, I've always avoided the "school buildings" and any masses that I know are for school purposes. If it makes it easier to opine, the 2 (school and church) seem to be 2 distinct entities.
It's strictly a pocket carry occasion. Too much change of a drive by hugging.
You are most likely okay. If it is just a daycare, then you are most certainly okay. Now, would you like to be 100% okay? Get permission from someone with the authority to grant it that says you can carry on campus.arthurcw wrote:Sorry for coming to the party late on this thread.

Yeah. I don't carry when I know things are going to move to a gym or auditorium since those are most likely School buildings. The parish hall is, IMO, the PARISH HALL. Not a school building. If I find that one of the masses is specifically for a school function (Confirmation, graduation, et al), my CCW stays in the car. Luckily, there are not many of those that happen. The problem is what school held on a church facility does not use the auditorium for some functions
OH MY SIDES HURT!!! PLEASE STOP!!!! HAHAHAH! That's good one. Sadly, I think this is something I'm gonna leave on the QT. Too many people would have a coronary. I'll sit quietly and keep their backs while the Good Lord gets us holyafied. This is one of those instances where what they don't know may save their lives. Now, would you like to be 100% okay? elbTO THE MILITIA
As it is presumed, from the defenceless
manner in which some persons enrolled in the
militia of this territory assemble themselves
for public worship, that they may be unin-
formed in a few essentials of duty, the follow-
ing publication is made for their government
-- with the assurance that all future delin-
quencies must be noticed by
WINTHROP SARGENT
the present Commandant
Extract and act entitled, " an act to
"alter & amend the militia laws." Page 67.
Sec 2d. And it shall be enacted, " That whenever
" persons enrolled in the militia of this ter-
" ritory shall assemble at any place for pub-
" lic worship, each person shall arm and
" equip himself, according to the law, in the same
" manner as if he were marching to engage
" the enemy, and on default, he shall be fined
" as the law directs in cases of default when
" ordered for guard or other ordinary mili-
" tary duty," &tc.
Copy of a general order to the militia issued
at Cincinnatti, County of Hamilton and ter-
ritory aforesaid, September the 18th 1792.
The practice of assembling for public wor
ship without arms may be attended with most
seditious and melancholy consequences --It
presents the opportunity to an enemy of the
smallest degree of enterprise to effect each
fatal impression upon our infant settlements
as posterity might long in vain lament.
The laws of the territory have wisely pro-
vided that every man enrolled in the militia
shall upon those occasions, arm and equip
himself in the same manner as though he
were marching to engage the enemy, or
in default that he shall be fined one
cents to be levied upon complaint
made to any justice of the peace.
