Only not in name because our rulers have made themselves almost immune from the laws we must follow. Some day a future dictionary may list the following as synonyms:
gangster, thug, hoodlum, criminal, racketeer, congressman, senator, city councilman, mayor, . . .

Mass is such a beautiful place and it is just filled with history. I have an uncle that lives in Manchester-By-The-Sea and it is so calm and beautiful there. Just a short drive from Salem, Ipswich, Gloucester, Marblehead which are all absolutely awesome places. I absolutely love it there.

Though I'm a Texan (born and spent my childhood/teenage years here), I spent about half of my USAF career between two bases in Northern California. There is a LOT of beautiful countryside there, and variety from mountains to coastline and forest to desert...BUT, that place is ruined by its laws, and the people who elected those who created the terrible laws. Sometimes I would think about how that state must have been several decades ago...for goodness sakes, action-type pistol competitions (vs. bullseye, etc.) got their start in Southern California...whatever happens, we cannot allow those sorts of hideous excuses for laws to be applied to Texas.

...we often blast Kalifornia, Messachussetts, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio, (and even England)...we're not saying that there's nothing wonderful there...or that all the people there are stupid, or anything else that encompasses all of the residents...the comments are directed toward the way the governments there treat American citizens...and citizens of their own states...with no regard to human rights and liberties...ususally in the area we call 2A...we're saying we won't live under that kind of oppression...and we can't understand how people...free Americans, let the state governments tighten their grasp around their necks as tightly as they have without doing much more than swallowing hard...we know how to stop it...or repeal it...we haven't shed blood in Texas getting things as good as they are...but it took a lot of effort...and patience...and we're steadily moving in the right direction...I don't understand how free people allow things to get that bad...

Understood...not that anyone here said it, but across the interwebs I often see folks saying things like "I hope California falls into the ocean" or "We should just give it back to Mexico", that sort of stuff...but that is AMERICAN SOIL...Texas and California are the two states that have had the greatest numbers of folks serve in the US Armed Forces...it sickens me to see part of our nation like that...and that I felt I HAD to move away from there (not that a Texan ever feels right anywhere but the home state, ha ha)...but I simply couldn't remain there and FIGHT, so to speak...family comes first...however, I hope that someday we will be able to redeem that place, and all the areas in this nation where things have gone drastically wrong, like Massachusetts...

I was going to agree, but I think chasfm11 has a little more accurate focus: what they're seeking is docility. I definitely agree that there are a lot of evil politicians.

I can see how that design would lessen the chances of knife falling off the counter and cutting your foot on the way down*, but if I stab you with it that rounded bit will just make it hurt more.

*If you've got wood or linoleum flooring and the knife is falling point-down, a sharp traditional pointed knife might stick in the floor (or at least probably not bounce much), whereas this design could go off in who knows what direction.

Yep I am no metal smith but even I could easily put a point on the end of that knife. As always laws that disarm citizens only disarm those who are willing to obey the law, those who aren't willing (or have legislated themselves above the law) don't/won't care.
