Any suggestions on a reasonably priced FFL to do the paperwork in the Houston area? Some guys want 30-40% as their fee.

I use the guys at AMSS on Jones Rd. They charge $15 for CHL holders. Best price I've found in my area.

+1 for AMSS. I have not done a transfer through them yet but I am guilty of spending hours in that store BSing with the employees and other customers. Great guys. That is where my PSA lower is heading.

When I was building my previous AR, I lost the safety selector detent spring. I went to a few shops in the area to no luck. I finally found a place that sold me one for $10 and they ended up giving me the spring for the rear takedown pin. Finally I went to AMSS and they happened to have a safety detent spring...now they initially gave me the wrong one as well, but I came back and was given the right spring in the end. Keyword is given. Didn't charge me a dime.

Be advised, PSA appears to be having a sale on their lower parts kits. Looks like $5 off the basic LPK (fire control group, pistol grip, trigger guard, etc) and MOE LPK (same thing but with MOE pistol grip). $44.99 and $54.99 respectively.

MOE lower build kit is on sale at $124.99 down from $139.99 (comes with the fire control group, MOE grip, MOE trigger guard, MOE stock, buffer tube, spring, buffer, everything you need to turn a stripped lower into a complete lower).

They are right on cue...have a gigantic lower sale, then have a sale on the lower parts kits...move lots of hardware :P

So, I found a local pawn shop to do the FFL Transfer. They told me that PSA needed to fax them their information before they could fax theirs so PSA could ship the lower. :???:

So, the little company is going to wait on the big company to do things. Great. :banghead:

Either way, before I start raising hell with my local guys, I shot an email to PSA on Sunday with the fax number and letting them know the situation.

This afternoon I got an email from PSA letting me know they faxed things over.

A big +1 on this company so far. :thumbs2: I know they must have gotten a TON of orders on this sale, and they still managed to take time to fax their stuff first, and email me about it.

Now the waiting game begins!

PSA is extremely busy right now. I'm waiting on a complete upper (14.5" 1:7 4150 chrome lined) that currently is in the manufacturing stage. This will be going on top of one of their Gadsden lowers.

I appreciate the suggestion but a 30% transfer fee is too rich for my blood.

In addition, it appears AMSS will only transfer one lower per day. :headscratch

Sounds like one of you Houston guys needs to get an FFL and start offering $10 transfers to CHLs.

I'm going to ask them why they have that 1 modern sporting rifle/part transfer per day policy when I pick up my lower. I think 20% is the best you're going to find in Houston brother...personally I'm not gonna spend the extra $5+ in gas trying to get there.

The last time I checked, all these were doing transfers for $20.00 in the Houston area. Its been a while, so I would call them first to make sure.

Why pay $20 when forum members will do it for $15? :headscratch

$15/$49.95 = .3003 = pretty close to 30%

It looks like it would be cheaper to pay sales tax, usually less than 10%
