I was half-awake/half-dozing on the couch last night but I saw a piece on the S&W Shield 9mm on the Outdoor Channel on one of the gun shows (can't remember the name), looks like a nice gun. The piece covered a little bit about the design/development and the manufacturing/assembly of the gun (which is all of interest to me professionally). Then S&W had its gun pros do some shooting, the product manager showed some of the accessories for it, etc. It looks really nice.

i got mine monday, and finally got to shoot it last night.

i really like it! i just didn't feel i was hitting where i was pointing with my LC9 (probably the longer trigger pull). but the Shield worked great, hit what i meant to hit.

shot it side by side with my Walther PPS, and the PPS made my hand hurt more over time. the Shield was very comfortable, peppy shorter trigger and accurate as far as i can tell.

glad i got it.

I have a feeling I'll be picking this one up in the near future, hopefully around Father's day if possible.

I've been interested in some smaller CCW options and this one really has me interested with all the positive feedback it's gotten. I went to Academy in Round Rock to look at it and the guy at the gun counter said they few they got sold within the hour that they recieved them!

Just this minute I got off the horn with Academy in Lewisville (Denton County).

The gun counter guy told me that they got 2 of these guns in the day that they were announced.
He told me they were both sold by 4 PM that day.

He wasn't sure of any future incoming shipments of them to the Lewisville store, but said that they
usually get gun deliveries on Mon-Wed-Fri's.

The next delivery that may include some more M & P Shields will be Wednesday, April 25, 2012.

Good luck to any of my neighbors that may snag one of these next week. Please post on this thread
if you are able to get one, due to this entry.

TIA / SIA

I went to the gun show in Tyler today and found three dealers offering the Shield for sale. One guy had a price tag of $499. That was $50 over the suggested retail. Another dealer had his for sale at the MSRP of $449. He wouldn't come down off of his price. The third dealer had his at $399 but had sold it already. I left the gun show and proceeded on to Academy and they were sold out. Said they sold them as quick as they come in at $399. I then went to Gander Mountain and they had one at $449. I asked them if they would price match Academy and they did.

So, did you actually buy one? If yes, is yours a 9 or a .40?

Yes, I did buy the one Gander Mountain had for $399. It is a 9. I don't think the. 40 is available yet.

The above link, dated 4/24/2012, details how Smith and Wesson has provided all the Shield details to
the accessory makers, who are now busy pumping out holsters, lasers, etc. for the new gun.

So for anyone considering a Shield, you needn't hold off getting one due to lack of after-market products.

Those look like nifty little guns. I like my full-sized M&P45 very much. If these little babies are as good as that, then you really can't go wrong with it. But before I popped for one, I would want to check out the new single stack Springfield XDS.
