Alternatively the range is hot, people are shooting... and some clown drags out a pistol from deep concealment while managing to point the muzzle at his own body-parts as well as everyone else around him.
Double yup.
And please always review range rules carefully. If ever in any doubt,
ask. Nuthin' wrong with askin'; only if you don't.
For example, some ranges that allow presentation and shooting from concealment will restrict
how you can carry and do so. We all know there are ways to safely withdraw a gun from just about any possible concealed position, but some are inherently less safe than others...particularly with people standing beside or behind you. That's why IDPA rules disallow cross draw holsters, shoulder holsters, and small-of-back holsters.
If you step to the line at a range that allows presentation from concealment and you start to withdraw your small-of-back carry without confirming range rules first, you may--rightfully so--have the
Wrath of the Rangemaster on you in seconds.
Ranges have the right to establish and enforce their own rules, and by abiding by them we all help ensure that there are no news headlines tomorrow blaring, "Gun Accidentally Goes Off at XYZ Shooting Range, Injuring Customer."

I don't know why it seems so offensive to some for a range to enforce safety rules. I know it would be so nice to just do what you want if you are well trained, but if you are allowed to do it, they will also have to allow the guy who just looked down the barrel to see if that click meant there was a bullet still in there. I'm willing to make a deal that I don't practice drawing and firing if he can't either.

Well said.

Many ranges don't have explicit rules posted - if not, I just apply the old adage "better to ask forgiveness than permission" and go about my business. They don't want you drawing & firing, but I haven't had a problem with unholstering & reloading my carry piece, and reholstering it when I'm leaving. (I don't make a production out of it.)
The one time a very irate range officer yelled at me was when I joined the firing line at a range in suburban Chicago. Someone emptied a magazine as fast as they could pull the trigger and Roger the Bearded Flunky came tearing and and SCREAMED at ME - since I was the "new" guy on the range - for violating the range's "no rapid fire" rule. Red in the face, he went on at some length, much to the amusement of the other shooters . . . and when he stopped for air, I held up my pistol - a Thompson Contender single shot! - and asked "I've only fired ONE shot so far - how long was I supposed to wait to avoid breaking your no rapid fire rule?"
Much laughter from the firing line, his face went from red to purple, and he stomped out muttering things forum rules prevent me from repeating.
I had a real heart-to-heart with the store's owner - who I knew rather well - and Roger the Bearded Flunky never bothered me again.

I shoot at the Bass Pro in Grapevine as well. Before I got my CHL - I had to check in and get a trigger lock on my gun (which they remove when you arrive at the range), log how much ammo, how many targets, and if I brought my own eye and hearing protection. Now that I have my CHL, I just notify them at the door and they let you walk straight in without logging anything.
Secondly a range can't legally prevent you from concealed carrying and force you to disarm unless they have a 30.06 sign right? And unless they find out that you are carrying and ask you to leave, they don't have the right to disarm you. They can, of course, prevent you from displaying/discharging your CCW. Violating such a rule would give them the right to ask you to leave or prosecute based on the fact you knowingly presented your weapon without legal right to do so (reasons listed in PC 9)
Correct me if I'm wrong?

Can you explain further?

I guess I'm confused on the difference between public and private.
What's the difference in a grocery store and the gun range at bass pro shops?
I was under the impression that either one has to have a properly displayed 30.06 or 51% sign to prevent me from carrying inside it.

You mean "oral" notice, yes?
In keeping with the language in ยง30.06(b). Right?
I'm a nerd who actually owns a 16-volume set of
The Oxford English Dictionary. They ceased producing the print version years ago. Alas.

most ranges i have been to are fine with concealed carry. just check on there policy on drawing. some place you can draw from concealed and fire, others, you can draw and place the weapon down then begin to fire.
