EOs:

1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.

2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.

3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.

4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.

5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.

6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.

7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.

8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).

9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.

13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.

14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.

15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.

1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system. Sounds like a strengthening of current law

2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system. Same as above

3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system. Same as above

4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks. Nothing wrong with that except for a need for careful review of who they define as dangerous.

5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun. Define a seized-gun. A temporary seizure as on the side of the road or a seizure where someone has been booked?

6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers. On the fact of it, a good idea...but who pays for that? What is the definition of a private seller?

7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign. Should have been one already. Hasn't the NRA and other groups been doing them for decades?

8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission). Ummm, okay. I suspect that this can get intrusive and costly if anything further comes of it.

9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations. Makes sense to me.

10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement. For what purpose? Hopefully the EO is more descriptive.

11. Nominate an ATF director. Eliminate the ATF.

12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations. I am pretty sure that LEO's and First Responders already get that. The NRA has been asking for School Officials to receive this already as far as I know.

13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime. Yes.

14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence. No. This is not a disease. It is a political ploy to backdoor gun ownership.

15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies. Challenge away. The private sector innovates every day.

16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes. It better prohibit it. I cannot support this order at all.

17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities. Agreed.

18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers. Yes.

19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education. Yes.

20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover. This should already be practiced.

21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges. I have no idea what that means.

22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations. Yes.

23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health. Yes. That is their job in the first place.

I'll take you at your word. I can't watch or listen to the president. The snippets that I get through various media sources are plenty.

Despite the enormity of the events occuring today, I'm on the clock and owe my employer a solid days work. I'm already going to work through lunch to make up for these posts. ;-)

I respect your dedication and honesty. I'm taking advantage of being self employed. Very thankful for the blessings and flexibility that I enjoy.

I'm sure you'll have plenty of opportunities to view it and form your own conclusions.

Scary how so much of what he says sounds so sensible and reasnable on the surface. Then when one really thinks about and analyze what he says, one realizes that he is opening the door for his government paid minions to do the dirty work of violating our rights. Scary indeed.

What is it going to take before our representatives step up and force him to acknowledge legislation without representation will not be tolerated?

You're way too trusting. This is the Obama administration we're talking about.

Unnecessary legal barriers? What do you think those are? I'm betting they are protections against false and inaccurate reporting and the release of information people expect to be private. These first four proposals are all about loosening standards for what can be reported and used against you.
Purplehood wrote:
7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign. Should have been one already. Hasn't the NRA and other groups been doing them for decades?
No, NOT what the NRA does. Remember, we're talking Obama here. "Safe" means not owning guns....they will say the only way of being safe is not having a gun in your home. But, if you do have guns, responsible means keeping them locked up and unloaded, and not owning any guns liberals think are scary, like "assault" rifles and handguns. So, being responsible means locking up your bolt action deer rifle and the over and under you use for shooting skeet.
Purplehood wrote:
8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission). Ummm, okay. I suspect that this can get intrusive and costly if anything further comes of it.
This means making new guns more difficult to use and less reliable. It also means there will be a standard that any gun in the home be unloaded and locked in a safe. Not doing that signals your criminal intent, and therefore makes you one of those dangerous people they're going to be watching. If you have kids, their doctor will ask them if Daddy keeps all his guns unloaded and locked in a safe when he's not out hunting or at the range. That will get reported in your medical records and become part of a background check.
Purplehood wrote:
10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement. For what purpose? Hopefully the EO is more descriptive.
This report will say that lost and stolen guns are a huge problem and the only way to deal with it, other than banning guns, is to pass a law that all firearms in the home must be unloaded and locked in a safe at all times.
Purplehood wrote:
13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime. Yes.
You're thinking, yes, get those gang-bangers and thugs; they're thinking, yes, get those right-wing nut job gun owners on every possible technicality and put them in prison.
Purplehood wrote:
14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence. No. This is not a disease. It is a political ploy to backdoor gun ownership.
I can write that report already. It will say the cause of gun violence is the availability of guns and the prevention of gun violence is to limit the guns available and restrict who can possess them --to law enforcement and the military.

Purplehood wrote:
15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies. Challenge away. The private sector innovates every day.
Punish, economically, gun manufacturers and sellers who fail to render guns less reliable and harder to use.
Purplehood wrote:
16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes. It better prohibit it. I cannot support this order at all.
Make sure doctors ask and record information on gun owners, and make sure this information gets into any background check.

Purplehood wrote:
17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities. Agreed.
This means tell doctors to report anyone who expresses any opposition to or dissatisfaction of the current regime, or socialism in general, as potentially dangerous.

Purplehood wrote:
19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education. Yes.
This means officially instructing people that using guns for self-defense is bad, evil even, and that good Americans wait for their turn to be killed.

I won't go on to the rest because they all really amount to the same thing.

Won't be long until the next incident. The plan is proceeding. Most folks, the uninformed, the Fudds, will look at these EOs and say "This is not so bad.""

Like I said in another post, the details will not be known until it is too late.

Yes, there is not much support in either the Senate or House for action on guns. This is merely a delay.

Once the next incident happens, there will be some who resist in Congress. The huddled masses will scream for action.

By then the fed.gov agencies will be armed up and suited up, ready to rock.

Pay attention to the rumors. The government cannot shutdown everything. Yet. Even if somewthing sounds a bit outlandish, it might be pointing to a bit of valuable information.

Oh yeah, I forgot one of the medical points in my list above......have a spouse, child, or other relative in your home taking anti-depressants, for example.....no guns for you.
