INMHO this Isn't a very strong message / position at this time. Maybe I am reading too little into it?

I believe that all local and state peace office have an obligation to not enforce these laws. When Arizona, along with a few other states, attempted to enforce federal immigration law the Obama administration took them to court to stop them from enforcing federal laws...and won. My view is if they want federal officials to enforce federal immigration laws then they can also enforce federal firearms laws. I live in Denton County and will vote for any candidate that runs with "no enforcement" as part of their platform. As a native Texan I am surprised that ANYONE named William B Travis would take such a "non" position.

Such a weak comment makes me think he should change his name to something like Walter Mitty and should not sully the name William B. Travis.

I wrote the Fayette County Sheriff but received no response.

I will write the Galveston County Sheriff a paper letter. He does not have a published email and I can understand why.

Here is the stated position of the Kendall County Sheriff.

Recent tragic events in our country have renewed legislative efforts and public debate about gun control and the Second Amendment of the Unites States Constitution. I have visited personally and have received many inquiries on the topic, and I understand many citizens are concerned about encroachments by the federal government on individual rights. We live in a state and county where gun ownership is common, and fortunately in Kendall County, gun violence is rare.
As your Sheriff, I swore an oath which states in part “I will faithfully execute the duties of the office of Sheriff of Kendall County of the State of Texas, and will to the best of my ability preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and of this State, so help me God.” I believe speculation about potential laws, both federal and state, now being filed or considered, is not productive and serves to divide us, not bring us together to solve the problem of gun violence.
Further, I am not aware of any bills filed in the United States Congress or either house of the Texas Legislature that would order the surrender of firearms by citizens who have lawfully purchased them, and I would be personally opposed to the passage of any such law.
I want to assure the citizens of Kendall County that I take my Oath of Office seriously and have no intention of following orders or laws which have been found to be unlawful or unconstitutional.

+1 david walker in wise county has yet to respond to my emails. he must be unavailable. at least that is my rationale because this: "I will never betray my badge, my integrity, my character, or the public trust. I wrote the Sheriffs of Tarrant, Hill, Parker, and Johnson counties. A representative of Johnson County Sheriff's dept responded to reassure me the Sheriff takes his oath of office to protect the Constitution very seriously and will defend it. . Johnson County is on the list, so is Hill County, though I did not get any response from them. Tarrant and Parker counties are not on any list I have found so far, and they did not respond. I do believe writing your Sheriff's in a polite manner who have not expressed a view in support is a good idea. They need to know how their citizens feel and that citizens do look to them as a line of defense from an assault on our Constitutional rights.

Sheriff Box of Colin County jumped on the bandwagon, but made it pretty clear he feels that some gun laws are Constitutional.

Sheriff Valdez of Dallas County responded with some liberal circle-speak, while Sheriff Anderson from Tarrant County side-stepped the issue through a spokesman.

Here is my response to his Facebook post above as I just don't feel confortable with how vague and open ended a couple of his statements are.

Sheriff, I appreciate you making your statement of where you stand at the moment. I would like to have seen you take a stronger stance that states your support for our right to bear arms as affirmed by the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution. While stating a position of support for the 2nd Amendment may be seen as divisive by some, it is actually a reaffirmation and assurance to the citizens whom you serve that you plan to uphold the oath you took even if some disagree. While the current bills and debate does not openly contemplate confiscation of weapons, it is obvious the proposed legislation is just a step towards registration and then confiscation. There is ample historical evidence to support this. The 2nd Amendment says that our right to bear arms shall not be infringed and this is part of the Constitution which you swore to uphold. This is not a time for politics or trying to be everyone's friend, this is a time to take a definitive stand for what is right and for the document and principle's on which this great country is based. Here is a link to a list of your fellow sheriffs from around the country that have taken a strong stand against gun control. No you're not. With the neighboring Sherrif's statements that are clear, concise and strongly worded...this is a cop out.

Wes – I can assure you that Sheriff Anderson took an oath on January 2, 2013 (the beginning of his fourth term) to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution. I know this because I personally administered that oath. I hope this answers your question - Sandra
