you also want to be sure that the gun they are pulling is real, and has the safety turned off before you fire. Otherwise you might be the face of a new antigun law, or heavier restrictions on CHL applicants and renewals.
How in the world can you tell if the safety is on or off? Plus, a good amount of firearms don't even have a safety anyways. :headscratch

You point a gun at me, I will react to stop the threat. Unless it is orange or clearly a water gun. If I become the next poster boy, then I am still alive to put up with the harassment.

I don't know how to tell if the safety is on or off on the gun in another persons hand 10 to 20 feet from you. That kind of hesitation could mean my kids have one less parent.

ETA: I've read articles dating back to 2010 were criminals are painting real guns to look like fake guns. Such as painting the tip of the gun orange. Another tactic to make you hesitate.

Do you have children? I owe it to my children to be there for them.
You'd want a really good therapist. Military folks who come back, who have been put in those situations.....it doesn't sound like it's something they will ever forget, nor want to repeat. I remember meeting a Marine friend of my ex's who had just gotten back from Iraq. Later in the night after they had a few too many drinks, he got weepy about a child on a bike who had a gun aimed at them. He didn't go into details at all, just kept mentioning how it was the worst situation he had ever been in and I believe it. It's a moral dilemma.

I've seen hurt people, I see hurt people daily coming to the clinic, but the look in that young mans eyes, thats a completely different and deeper level of pain that will probably always be with him in some shape or form. I don't wish that on anyone and I hope none of you ever have to be in that position.
I'm a Vet. I can assure you that I've seen that look many times.

How do I know it's a 10 year old and not Gary Coleman's evil twin?

A guy I know was in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne. On a "routine" patrol about 5 Km outside the wire of the firebase they were operating from they came under fire from a heavy machine gun. The patrol formed a line and assaulted the machine gun about 40 meters away one of the Gis got a clear shot at the gunner and killed him. When they went to destroy the gun and access the position for Intel they found a 8-10 year old kid chained to the gun. The guy who shot him had a serious breakdown when he learned the kid only had about ten rounds left for his gun. Lovely people the Viet Cong and NVA were back then.

I'm saying, do what you have to do to keep yourself and your loved ones safe and deal with the consequences later.

I agree with this, but I have to trust that I'd protect myself and my family if the issue arose.

The only thing that causes such a difference in the responses to this entire thread is found in the title:

Re: What would you do if anyone pulled a gun on you?

There... That should make it an easier question to answer.

I will give the kid the first shot, period. Before he makes a fatal mistake I will try to reason with him till forever.
Even if I am positive the gun is not a toy. Not having to deal with the mental/legal ramifications are worth the risk . You on the other hand can do whatever you please, just as public opinion/the courts will do when they put you away for life after bankrupting you and totally screwing up yours and your entire family's lives, just because "you were in fear for your life" and shot a kid with a toy gun. There are a thousand variations to this scenario. I attempt to choreograph each situation as if I am in a courtroom filled with liberals. BUT, should things get bad I will OWN that kid and know that I tried my very best.
FWIW, I have had guns pulled on me 4 times, BUT , I have NEVER had to discharge my weapon. Probably pay for my mistakes with my life one day, but with public opinion/the judicial system as screwed up as they are I still go home each night a free man and my house is not mortaged to pay a lawyer defending me in a shooting or civil suit.

wow, you sure beat the odds..

If you wouldn't mind... Can you scan and post the police reports from those four times you were assaulted with a deadly weapon? I'd be very interested in reading them.

Thanks

Wow, if I send you some money, will you buy me some lotto tickets 'cause you are one lucky cowboy.

:iagree: I would love to see the reports behind the times you claim.

Guess we will just have to agree to disagree. Unless the gun is yellow and red or an obvious toy gun, I find it hard to believe that any DA would proceed and any jury would convict.

You are more than welcome to comb thru the filings in San Antonio/Bexar county. As to the exact time /dates ??? IF you are a LEO active or retired do you keep track of such instances. If so you are a new boot.
