Because John Browning was a genius.
Because if you instinctively point your finger at a distant object, odds are your wrist will be in the same position as a grip on a 1911...not a Glock.
Because even the cheapest 1911 has a better trigger than any but a customized striker-fired pistol.
Because the 1911 shoots a big round; even if it doesn't expand, it's still effective.
Because with improving technology, that near half-inch bullet is even more efficient.
Because a 1911 is slim, it's easier handle to and maneuver.
Did I mention my EDC was a 1911?

Aside from the great trigger, flat profile, that it fits my hand perfectly, and that I can hit what I aim at with a 1911 better than I can with most anything else, this pretty much sums it up for me:

I really am interested. I carry Springfield XDM .45 3.8. So I get the .45 aspect. I love my XDM .45. I was wondering what is the mystical draw to a 1911. I wasnt sure if it operated in some different way or something.
I think the take away is Slim, Reliable, Fast, Trigger is Great, History etc. However, I am balancing that with my experiences with H&K and Springfield. I would like to get one just wasnt sure how big of a priority it was for me. My intended acquisition list is long and I wasnt sure where a 1911 belongs. I almost purchased the USS Texas commemorative 1911 but had other issues take funds away. No offense intended I really do appreciate the information and it was informative in my decision process. I probably have a 1911 around 2 or 3 on my list instead of where it was around number 6.

If you really haven't ever shot a 1911, you owe it to yourself to take a test drive... I've yet to see anyone fire a 1911 for the first time and not start grinning ear to ear. On the other hand, I've had a number of people shoot other handguns and find them objectionable from the first shot.
You've got nothing to lose by trying one... you may not like it, but you may find your new favorite.
I need to stay out of these 1911 threads... I found myself looking at another new one this morning!
