I ALWAYS have to hunt an employee down, get them to page someone for sporting goods, wait for someone to appear (sometimes happens) then, IF anyone does appear, they have to search for the keys to the cabinets.

Last trip there I got tired of waiting and just walked away. I'll go back when I'm in a better mood.

Never got carded though -- I probably don't look a day over 60.

Well, the guy I dealt with was stocking shelves and didn't speak much english at all.

And yes, I have had Wal-mart security try to detain me for refusing to let them mark my receipt...It was fun

Please, oh please let them try! I had a door nazi at Best Buy (59@610) actually grab my arm to try and stop me. He told me "you have to stop or i will call the Police". I had a little bag in my hand with blank dvd's. Needless to say I was rather hostile at that point (visually not physically) and asked for the manager then told him to go ahead and call, he could use my phone. I went by there the next day and asked the new face at the door where the guy from yesterday was and they said he works in the store room now. I truly despise the door checkers and refuse to let them search anything.

Receipt checking at the door must vary....I shop at 3 different WalMart's - Garland (I-30); Rockwall and Greenville....No receipt checking is done at those three.....I have seen them stop someone if the alarm goes off and check their receipt against the items in their cart.

When I ask stores they always say it is to verify their checkers are doing their job, but I dont buy that. You are inconveniencing me because you feel your checkers are incompetent? No, they are assuming my guilt for no reason and I am not standing for it. Sam's Club is by far the worst as they will actually chase you into the lot.

Is it evil of me that I feel like buying something at Sam's Club now just to see if they will do that?

Just remember most of the "door greeters" DO NOT know - they are simply following instructions. So be NICE when you keep walking. All you have to do when they say "I need to check your receit" is to SMILE real big and say "no thank you, not to day" and keep going.

I am always nice, until it is not time to be nice. I usually just respond with a "No thank you, you dont need to see my receipt." 99 out of 100 times that satisfies them.

You could have charged him with assault for grabbing you, when the police arrived.

Of course they didnt call the police, there was no law being nroken and the door searches arent enforceable. If anyone knows HPD I am sure they would have promptly arrived for a "failure to consent to search" by a door clerk.

I got asked the question if I was over 21...I'm 55 years old and said that I have CORNS older than 21. The manager was called to approve the sale. The manager told the clerk not ot prove she was an idiot by asking a senior citizen if he was over 21.

Seriously, though, the poor girl was probably just parrotting something she'd been told to do by a mid-level manager who was just going through the motions of the job.
While it is annoying, I find it generally harmless, personally (yes, just personally - if someone else finds it truly offensive, then I am behind that person 100% to complain about it, and see that their experience is worthwhile)
But, alas, I don't directly know of any Walmarts in my area what still carry handgun ammo.

See, I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night...

Bottom line, we are right, they are wrong, but they are the ones hiring people to be that last little kiss off at the exit door...And most people put up with it...

The bad part is so many people accept this store policy, that you can't leave the store (Sam's Club especially) without running into the back of 8-10 people with carts full of "stuff"...That you can't just get around them to leave...

So there is your dillema...And a decision that you have to make...

While technically I could fall either way on this, and I do feel like I am being detained because I cannot be trusted, and therfore should be treated with extreme scrutiny...(sarcasm off)

By my true nature, I really don't want to disrespect someone who has been asked to do this rediculous function in the first place...That function we all know doesn't really do anything...And they (door checkers) really don't know why either...

Look at it this way...At least they are working...And not totally on subsidies...We are all one "can you come in here, we need to talk" discussion and out the door you go from that situation...

That's how I feel. They're doing a job that no one in their right mind wants to do, most likely at minimum wage.

If you don't like this nonsense, write to the management and tell them you're not shopping there because of it. Then shop somewhere else.

BTW, I've bought ammo at the Wal-Marts in Galveston and La Marque, and they didn't stop me at the door. Part of that may be that I'm much quicker than the checkers.

My walmart in Alvin sells all kinds of ammo and never walks me to the door. They usually hand it over the counter and let me pay in automotive(line is always short there).

The guy that "helped" me (sporting goods) to check out in automotive (next door), till a very distraught and rude person punched in line in front of me as I was ready to check out...All the time on their cell phone screaming to get their money back on a battery that "di'ent werk"!!!

I turned, looked at the guy, and said lets get this over with at the front...

All the time if they had known that I really "di'ent neeed" these boxes of ammo right then anyway...hint hint...Yes, I was wearing a Hawaian shirt...
